Here’s a chance for everybody to put their thinking caps on.
I’m looking to do some comparison testing with my new Jack Wolf Scuffle, so I apologize up front if these requirements seem annoyingly specific. Generally what I’m looking for is a not ridiculously expensive ($500 or below) midtech or production folder that meets the following parameters:
- blade length: 3 to 4 inches, ideally greater than 3.5.
- hollow ground blade
- relatively thin behind the edge bevel
- manufactured by an outfit that has a reputation for good, consistent heat treating
- heat treatments that favor the higher end of the acceptable hardness range
- blade crafted from one of the following steels: Cruwear, CPM-10V/K390, CPM-4V, CPM-3V, Rex 45 or Magnacut
- New or used is fine
- Ready availability is obviously a plus
The hollow grind and the blade steel are the two most non-negotiable requirements. I have a Magnacut Sebenza which comes pretty close, so no need to suggest that one. What are some others out there that I might be missing?
