Need recs on a slicer w/ specific parameters

CRK 'Inyoni' is a 3.77" hollow-ground blade, Magnacut. And I can attest that mine is a slicey mofo.

That’s very svelte, Hammer. Fortunately, I have Reeve’s Magnacut covered with the Sebbie, but it’s definitely worthy of consideration regardless.

Am I being stupid here and not "gettng it" ?

I think you just describe a Spyderco Gayle Bradley 2 .

PS : I have two ; one stock (maybe reprofiled a little to even thinner behind the edge to be honest) .

One I totally reground the blade thinner ; 1.9 mm at the spine and about .009 " behind the edge .
Funny thing . . . at those specs the wonderful hollow grind disappears entirely .
just saying .
= I've never been a fan of hollow grind ; just thin grind . (for my tame uses) .

PPS : I once said here years ago : What's the big deal about the GB 2 ?! just go with the GB 1 (I have that also)
Now that I have the GB 2 I retract all that and have to say it is one of the best knives in my collection ! ! ! (I mean I bought two and put all that work ((for this amateur)) into hot rodding one of them so I must love them and I do .

You’re getting it just fine, Wowbagger. That’s an excellent suggestion. Thanks.

The Spyderco Smock in Cru-Wear also just came to mind as one that might meet the majority of the requirements.

How exactly is the blade steel critical for what you want to do? In terms of the balance of toughness to edge retention, at least, CTS-XHP kind of sits right in the middle of the steels you listed.

I bring that up because the aforementioned Spyderco Swayback really hits on the other points. It might have the very thinnest bte spec of any Spyderco out there, or at least close to it. And the polish on the blade makes it cut even more effortlessly; it's the best slicer I've tried. The main drawback is that the ergos heavily favor reverse grip push cutting.

But it has got to be a folder . . . .

I am thinking that a few of the smaller folders from CRK might meet the specifications and still fit under the $500 upper price point. The Incosi is a hefty handful, but a Small Svebenza might do it . . .or a Minandi (I find the CRK Swahili names to be confusing).

Whatever you do . . .please let us know the outcome!

You said that the Magnacut Sebenza comes close to meeting your parameters, so I'm assuming you're looking for a one handed opener. If not, a 112 or 110 from Buck's Custom Shop meets all the other specs, except it may take a month-month and a half to be delivered after ordering.

There is a GB2 in Cruwear .... just saying :)

Opening the search up to folders does make it much easier .....

BTW, if really want to give your Scuffle a run for the money, you could always get a Carolina Reaper in D3V on the used market - exactly 4" blade length (you didn't mention budget :) ).

His third sentence says that he is looking for a mid-tech or production folder under $500.

OP, a Sparrow Strix might be worth a look.

I think this Spyderco Southard meets all your specs, 3.5", hollow ground in CTS-204P (very similar to m390 iirc)

Edit. You wanted k390... Sorry bout that

I know you asked for hollow ground blades, but there are lots of knives that are really good slicers that aren't hollow ground blades. So just food for thought.

A couple knives that meet all your criteria except the hollow grind that I have and are probably the best slicers I have in folders of that size are a Spyderco Stretch XL in Cruwear and a Tactile Maverick in Magnacut. Both are nice and thin behind the edge and match or better my CRKs for slicing performance.

If cutting perfomance is the goal you might want to give them a look.

I’ll add my endorsement of the Spyderco GB2. I have the cruwear variant. I know you didn’t include CPM-M4 in your list of steels, it fits right in with the steels that you mentioned. Very nice hollow grind, thinner behind the edge than any of my Golden models, and very nice fit and finish.
