My dog daisy was hit my a car yesterday around 2pm. My father rushed her to the vet as I was at school. She had what we thought would be a broken pelvis, and nothing else, so she stayed last night at the vet. We went to pick her up today and got some bad news. Apparently, her illium(pelvis) is fractured, and her sacrum( the bone the connects the 2 sides of the pelvis to the spinal cord, is badly bent forward, causing possible nerve damage. As of right now, we have her home, resting. She cannot stand on her back legs now, but the docters say her nerves may reconnect or whatever after the swelling goes down. Now we just have to wait and see if she gets back any movement back there. If her nerves reconnect, she has alot better chance of making a full recovery. If not, well then she will never be able to walk, or control her bowels. God I dont know what Ill do if that happens. Please if you think about it, send smoke and prayers for Daisy, god knows she needs them.

Dude, thats aweful; im very upset and sorry to hear this. I hope everything works out for her. What ever you do dont give up. Best of luck, prayers sent.

Update: She is acting a little more perky now. It could have been the morphine from the vet wearing off, but I dont know. She is now licking water from a bowl, instead of of having to spoon it to her, and she ate about 1/2 can of dog food, so theres a couple good signs.

My dog is also named Daisy. Never met a dog named Daisy that wasn't a good pooch. Smoke and prayers sent.

I hope your Daisy gets better.

Thanks everybody. Shes about the same this morning. CM, Smoke sent for your pup as well.

Update: She has just had her first urination since bringing her home! This was a major sign we were looking for as it signals she has atleast some control of her bowls, which means her nerve ending are reconnecting. Now we just have to get her a med to make her relax. She is panting alot from the anxiety and stress. She made me laugh today though, when we went to let her out of the crate into her bed, we put the muzzle on her incase we had to help push her. ( she bit my dad out of pain and fear after she was hit) When we did that she got an additude. She cocked her head sideways and wouldent even look at us. We took the muzzle off and she came right out. She is moving both back legs, so things are starting to look better. She could stand on them both when she came out, but sorta stood on 1 partially and pushed with the other.

Edit: Does anyone know what medication we can give her for the anxiety and stress to calm her? we have oxycodene, vicodin, percoset and another that I cant remember. No we arnt druggies, my mom just saves that stuff incase we ever need the rest of it for pain. (: thanks for all the love and support you have given us and daisy.

I used to see an old guy walking his big old German Shepherd in the morning. The dog had no use of his hind legs, but the man had a small cart for him to sit in and pull himself along by walking normally with his fore legs. A canine wheelchair!

I'm glad to hear Daisy's pulling out of it. That she can move those legs at all means the nerves are OK, and she should regain her strength again.

Don't get your dog hooked on oxy. Having a brother hooked on it is bad enough, but a dog... Brutal.

Prayers sent!!! I am so sorry that she got hit by a car, and has such major damage.
