Ok guys, I have an idea for an EDC. I work in the oil and gas fields and use my knife daily (at least couple of dozens times a day). I have been EDC several different folders, slipjoints, liner locks, and lockbacks. They have done well but the problem I run into is I have to take off my glove to get in my pocket and open the knife then put it back.

So I was thinking if I could make a small EDC fixed blade I could draw it with one gloved hand use it and resheath with one hand.

I dont have to do alot of heavy cutting, mostly just small rope, tape, etc.

Below is a what I have come up with. It is just 5 3/4" +/- OAL.
It will be a skeleton. I made a cardboard template to try the size and feel, feels good and I have big hands.

Please let me know what you think, and how small is too small?
thanks for your help, and please dont hold back.
Edit: I forgot to add it will be ceracoated black. I hope the pic shows that, I am just learning to use this program

Well, if you're going to use it, and it feels good to you, it must be good :)

Now, aside from that, if you're going to use a gloved hand, you might want a slightly wider radius at the choil so a gloved finger can set in there well. Also, if it were me, I'd not bring the sharpened edge all the way back to a point at the heel of the blade like that. Leave a little ricasso to separate the handle from the blade in case of slips.

Just my $.02...not worth much nowadays :)

I think if you made your finger notch a bit higher and the handle a little longer it would make it a bit more user friendly especialy with gloves on.
Looks good.:D

Not holding back. I only see 2 things I see as possible concerns. 1: the little hook-back at the handle end of the cutting edge. 2: I would make the handle a little larger. Did you test the feel with a glove on? Thats how you'll be useing it. If you did and the handle feels good go with it.

imho that handle design will not work well with heavy gloves. It looks as if it would be hard to grab, and the small choil will easily slip around the outside pointer finger seam. I would slim it down into more of a stick instead of a tear drop shape. and throw some textured micarta or G10 on to it to get better grip.

WOW! Thanks for the quick input guys. Here are some mods I made based on it.
BTW I forgot to mention the gloves I wear are the thin mechanic style gloves.

I like the design. Personally, I like to have a straight portion on the edge. Maybe a line from the middle of the edge to the start of the grind?

I think Ive settled on a final design, please let me know if i can do anything else that would help. Maybe Ill make this a WIP from design to finish what ya think?

Sorry about so many pics, but the feedback really has help. Thanks!!

That detail was the first thing I noticed too. It would be easy to get bit.

This is an approach to the problem that I use that I feel works well, looks good and is easy to sharpen:
