Need some advice

I'm a begenner knife maker. I have bought some rain drop pattern damascus.I've ground the blade. What do you use to etch the blade?

Use Ferric Chloride. You can buy it at Radio Shack. They call it PCB etchant. Dilute it at least 4 to one with distilled water. Neutralize in full strength white vinegar for 5 minutes after etch in FeCl3. Should work out good.

I use my ferric at 7 to 1 and etch between 30 and 60 minutes. Sand with 1500 grit paper every ten minutes while etching, seems to help the etch look better. Make sure you try to bring your blade to mirror polish before etch. I never used to , but just tried it and had great results.

Talk to the guy that made the damascus. It all etches differently.
