Need some advise

I had a similar decision to make about 8 months ago. I was basically choosing from the Becker BK9 and the Kabar 1211. In the end, what swung the vote was the the Kabar would come with a Kydex sheath, instead of the nylon one of the Becker (I don't like nylon).

I think in retrospect, I would've gotten the BK9. Don't get me wrong, I really like the kabar. The only place it was lacking was weight and length. With a longer blade and an overall heavier weight, it would've likely been a better chopper. When I was gathering firewood and hacking some of the 1 inch-ish diameter branches off of my wood, it took more effort than I would've liked. My pack was around 40lbs, and a few ounces wouldn't have weighed me down significantly.

I looked at the kabars both the regular and the short both with the kydex sheath I liked them pretty good. The becker I guess it was the bk2? Becker companion seemed to feel the best to me in my hand. I want be splitting wood or knocking limbs off with whatever I buy, room in my pack for a hatchet that will take care of those duties. As well as a folding shovel so won't be digging a latrine with it. I looked at the spyderco aquasalt I liked it ok but idk thinking maybe I will just pack the mora on the boating trips. I know what you mean on the making sure to keep the knife secure to you. Year before last a regular client on the river gave me a knice river knife (can't remember thinking it was a spyderco) real nice blade stayed sharp and sharpened easy. Well, long story short the sheath is still packed in my gear but the knife is somewhere on the bottom of the river.

I'm no expert in scani grinds, but I've read that you sharpen them with the bevel flat on the stone.

I couldn't find my whetstone last night and it was driving me nuts. So I grabbed the wifes steel for the kitchen knifes and ran it on that a couple times. It done the trick I ran it on about a 20 degree angle or so trying to hit that micr-bevel I keep hearing about. I reckon I done something right or these little knives sharpen really easy I haven't ever been much at sharpening and it is sharp as a razor.
