I can't say for certain, but some watches have a little strap(and I mean a tiny strip of metal) that goes across or under the battery and is needed for the sounds to occur. When I changed a battery on a Timex the strap went missing and until it was replaced, no sound.

Also, I read somewhere that when changing a battery in some Casio watches, that there is some sort of contact with a pair of metal tweezers to something inside that HAS to be made, in order to get things started. That could be the problem?
I had a similar problem w/ a Timex Ironman - battery changed - no sound, but everything else worked fine. Customer support wote back very quickly - the back was on wrong (turned 180 degrees). There is a small diaphragm on the inside of the watch back that has to contact a small spring inside to produce the sound. Turned the back the right way, alarms work just fine now.
