A customer wants a great hunter with a 2" to 3" blade. Function is the priority. This is just a rough profile. But,you'll get the idea.
Here's what I have come up with. please give any comments or what would make it better. Tried to get different grip positions.

Thank-you in advance. Let it rip I have thick skin.

IMHO it looks like a good skinner but not a good field dressing knife. A knife for field dressing should be more pointy (caper) to open the belly and cut around the bung. It does look like a great little skinner though.

Thanks, William. I am not a hunter so that is good info. Oh, this knife is to be a companion to the 4" drop-point I made for him last year. I can see how a little more pointy would be an asset.

Was the drop point a more pointy knife? If thats the case then this would make a good companion. Cutting around the bung is sortta like coreing an apple. Your best bet though would be to check with the customer and see what they plan to use the knife for. Everyone has diferent ideas about what the ideal knife should be. I dont hunt much but have done a fair amount of butchering. when I feild dress I like to use a pointy blade about 3-4" long then use another knife with a rounded of tip for skinning.

A deeper finger groove ?? Made me shake seeing your forefinger slide over that blade edge .

I can only speak to how I use and most of the people I know use a small hunting knife.

Knock whatever that sharpy thingy is off the top of the knife, he'll have a finger run along the top of the blade at times.

Knock that point off of the top of the butt. It'll really hurt if he has to strike the end of the knife to drive it between some bone.

More point, not many animals in the Southeast would require the use of a dedicated "skinning" type blade.

Make sure it's comfortable and safe to use in an upside down grip, used to dress an animal, probably 20% time the knife will be held in an upside down grip.

I think it looks good but you wanted to know about a hunting knife. :D

Great info. Like I said I don't hunt. So any info is good info. By the way the customer lives in Kodiak Ak.
OK, Needs more point, deeper finger groove, less belly, and round the butt. I can do that.
Thanks guys keep it coming.

Since he's in Alaska and wants a small knife, it's most likely to be used for a caper or EDC type usage. Same stuff applies cept for a caper you want it really pointy.

I'll have to agree with Will, While I like the swedge at the top and the basic design, for a hunter that size I'd knock it off and take a little belly off too. Round off the sharp edge at the back of the handle and make sure it's safe and secure in all grips posisitions. I think with the swedge and blade style it needs to be longer, but that's just my .02$
