Need some help... 2.5" or less folder...

highjacking shmijacking! Who cares? If it means someones getting some good info I could care less...has somebody gotten their panties in a twist about that? Just ridiculous if you ask me. We're all here to learn; so what if we get off subject? Everything's gravy!

Spyderco Meercats are $23.00 at the Spyderco Factory outlet right now - check out specials at Spyderco.com. That includes shipping. You could always stretch your limit a bit and look at the Spyderco Salsa clearing out at $43.00.

WOW! The mini-pika looks great but it measures at 2.9...anyone had any experiences with this one? I may go over my limit for that one...what a deal!

Missed this. I don't know the N690 steel, but I just took a look at a pic of the knife. It looks almost identical in shape and even size to the Benchmade small Ascent (old style) that I happen to have in my pocket at this very moment. The lock release has been moved forward on the handle and the hole is now oval instead of round (the license from Spyderco for the round hole expired), but otherwise, the pic shows a blade and handle shape that is extremely close to the Ascent. It's probably the same knife with minimal modification. The price is lower too, which probably results both from having it made overseas and from the N690 instead of ATS-34.

I like this knife well enough too. But your initial posts specified a hard maximum of 2.5" and that you really wanted something "sheeple-friendly" to distinguish it from your other EDC knife. I've rarely had bad reactions to any knife I carry. Maybe I've just been lucky or maybe it's that I come across as pretty civilized, myself, and I don't tend to hang around with people who panic for no good reason. Still, one of the few real strong "weapon" reactions I've had was to the Ascent. (I had handed it to a female friend who was trying to open a birthday present. She commented on the knife and all, but did use it. :) A few months later when her husband was having a birthday, I carried a Spyderco Pegasus and not only got no negative reactions when I handed it to him, but about half the people in the room wanted to check out the knife. :D ) The blade of the Ascent probably looks longer than it is because it's quite narrow and pointy. If you want something very non-threatening, I think the Dragonfly or the Meerkats are a lot more the sort of thing I would expect to be able to show or lend to just about anyone without getting a startle reaction.

Now that you mention it, after looking at it, I see what you mean. It does look awfully long and thin...you had to make a good point didn't you? I was veering toward it strongly...the old lady even agreed, but I think you're right. :grumpy: Back to making the decision...

BTW PRN...Howdy from a fellow Hoosier!!! I'm from southern IN, my mom still lives near Madison!

Now back to looking at the Dragonfly...

WOW! New Graham is great! I finally decided on the SOG Twitch I which I came by accidently. Thank you all for your input; GREATLY Appreciated and I found out where all my business is going through as far as knife purchases go...what a deal! :D :D

$40? Steel a big factor? 2.5" or less?

I'd get a used Dodo.

I have a SS/PE Dragonfly that's 2 5/16" long. It's sharper than my Calypso Jr. and Delica and is an awesome knife. Highly recommended!

The SOG Twitch 1 is an EXCELLENT choice!! (why didn't I recomend that? I friggen OWN one!) The AUS8 keeps an incredible edge. That was my box-opener durring Christmas season and it lasted the entire time with out any sharpenings. Still popped arm hair off afterwards. I got mine sometime in October, and it's still as fast as the day I bought it.
Good choice.
