Need some help...Delica Vs. Native

I own both the delica and the native and would have to say the delica feels better in the hand. The slimness of the delica definitely gives a better feel for my smaller hands and i also like having more tip strength which the delica has. Overall the delica is a better knife in my opinion but you cant go wrong with either.

Get both. The Native has ended up in my pocket a few times lately. I love the choil and the blade control it provides. It works better for intricate cuts. The Delica is a small workhorse - It cuts like crazy. It also carries better in my opinion. I love them both - how about one in a spider-edge and one plain - thats what I have.

I own all three of those.

Personally I would keep the Grip and get a Delica sometime.

But if you really want to get rid of it go with the Delica. Since I got mine a few weeks ago it's quickly become a contender to my favorite EDC (Benchmade 943 Osbourne)

Well I was all set to order a Delica, but had to go to the store today for some cat food and went throug the Sporting Goods Dept. and made the mistake of asking to see a Native.....came home with me!

The ergonimics are awesome, and I dig the choil. I may get a Delica later, but I do like this native alot.

You made a wise choice. Every time I have debated over which knife to get I end up with both anyway. Let me know when you get the Delica! Be sure to get the waved version.

I don't totally get the "wave" thing, I saw a picture of a waved Delica and I am not quite sure what it's for.

Do you hook it on your pants to open the knife or use it like a thumbstud?

Are you kidding - 4,449 posts and you don't know what a wave is for?

I'm not being condescending, but I really find that hard to believe.

A waved knife catches the edge of your pocket and it's blade gets pulled open as you pull it out. It allows amazingly fast access to a knife. For me it works flawlessly, but I always wear jeans. Some have complained that it does not work as well with khakis or shorts.

Personally I love the wave on my Endura. It is currently my favorite knife. Everyone that sees it in action wants one.

I had no difficulty with it after getting a feel for the knife, the thumb ramp (Cutout in the handle? Don't know if that's what you're referring to) does a fine job. Delica just excels over the Native with how easy it is to open, but neither present a big problem.

Thanks Vivi

Yes, that's what I was talking about.

======================================

Well, my Native arrived today and I think it's terrific. Serrated edge, of course.

It was a good feeling walking around with it (right front pocket) instead of the Endura that's been in there. Getting used to opening it took a few minutes only. Fit, finish and sharpness are as usual with Spyderco - super. It feels unusually solid for a FRN knife. Also it's my first S30V knife. In fact, the more I handle and use it, the more I'm liking it.

Next to arrive will be the Delica, we'll see what's up with that. Maybe I'll be able to replace my 2 edc Enduras with 2 Delicas or a Delica and a Native. At least for a while, anyway.

What little mention I see of the wave is on Emerson and Some Spyderco's, I've never owned an Emerson and this Native is only my second Spyderco, the first was a Chinook.

I don't spend much time in the more "tactical knives" sub-forums, I normally spend time in Traditionals and Wilderness sub-forums.

From the pictures I assumed it was something like that, but I figured folks in here would know for sure, and the only REALLY dumb question is the one you don't ask.

Using my BM556 this week at work has reminded me why I prefer the Delica over the BM. The cutting edge does not go all the way to the tang so I tend to snag anything I cut such as cardboard and plastic sheeting.

Good point - I haven't had that issue with my Mini-Grip, but my 550 (PE/Sheepsfoot) has done that when I've done some hedge trimming and I was too lazy to go grab my Fiskars pruning saw. Another good reason I have around 20 Spydies and only a few BM's:) I had a chance to get a Mini-Grip with a tanto when I was in 'Vegas in May, and I've been monkeying with it trying to get a feel for tanto tips (I'm one that likes to correlate things with my own testing:) ) I could have bought others with this tip, BUT my BM's have not really let me down either (could have got CRKT in the M16, but it's not as "office friendly"). It's, ummmmm......different:p Quite useable, just different:)
