Hi guys, I've been throwing around the idea of making a folder for awhile now and I've decided to go ahead and do it. I've done a couple of fixed blades but I really want to have my own folder. I'm thinking about starting with a slip joint and then moving on to a liner lock. I would like to use the same materials for both so that I can save some money. However, I can't seem to find any information on what materials to use. I have a lot of 1095 that I've been making my fixed blades out of so I think I'll use that for the blades. What metal should I get for the liners and the back spring? And what thickness? Titanium is way to expensive for me. What kind of screws/pins will I need? And will I need a tap bit? Is there any little tools or materials that I need that I might overlook? I just really need a full shopping list from somebody with experience. I've ordered from here before http://www.knifemaking.com/, I don't know if its the best deals though. Let me know if I should find a different website. Thank you all for sharing your wisdom.
One more thing, how do you get the liner on the liner lock to bend and be springy? The tutorials that I've looked at seem to skip this step.

you could try starting by making tour own blades for knife kit knives, or just buy a kit to see how they work

What makes you think Ti is way to expensive?

Try using the search feature of this forum. Your questions encompass so much it's impossible to give you what you ask. Do you have a surface grinder as well as a good belt grinder? Unless you have made many straight knives and do not have these don't start. It will just be a most disappointing effort. By the way, I believe liner locks are far more easier to make than slip joints. There are some very good WIPS to look for in this forum. Frank
