I want to make a higher end art folder and set some gems into it. I have no idea how to start. I know nothing about what type of bezels i would need, or if i can make them myself. Any suggestions?

I did it a few times for different projects.

make a ring of thin metal (I used .999 silver) that fits snugly around your stone once soldered closed, and from the base, a little higher than the widest part of the stone on the side.

rotary to make a shallow seat for the stone and the ring. Its up to you how deep, but make the corner around the bottom as crisp as possible

place, fit and then solder ring into the depression. I always added a little drop of epoxy when I put in the stone. (Make sure the stone still fits after the ring is soldered in place)

After the epoxy cures, lightly sand the top edge of the ring if it isn't clean and smooth. Use a smooth dull peice of metal to burnish the ring over the edge of the stone to hold it in place. Use as little pressure as you need, and always remember your stone WILL shatter! It probably won't, but that was the advice given to me.

Anyway, the last time I did it was for my wife's engagement ring 18 years ago, but thats the basic process as I recall

Stones are properly set without epoxies or other adhesives. Perhaps if you tell us what kind of stones, and where/what they are going in, we could help.
