I have never had a knife taken on checked baggage. I know thers have though. Dirty underwear is a great place to hide knives. Make sure they are white underwear with properly placed skid marks.

I second that. I would just roll them up in some clothes. I really wouldnt be too worried since most of the time the people loading and unloading bag really dont have the time to search through them. I would be more worried about my expensive electronics ive checked than a knife.

If it's a high-end knife, then ship it to your destination.

I would suggest using ZIPTIES to secure the knives to the frame of the suit case. I usually carry folders and run zipties through the lanyard hole to secure it to the frame. It might be more difficult to do it on your specific knives, but you can always ziptie them to the sheath and then ziptie that to the frame of your suitcase.

You can also lock up your suitcase with a TSA approved lock. Only you will know the combo and TSA will have a master key to the approved lock.

Best of luck!

FYI This method worked for my small sebenza and my spyderco. I'll take some pictures here in a minute. Also make sure you have a good pair of snips in your luggage too. Nothing like getting to your destination only to not have something to remove the zipties. I find that nail clippers work great for this =p.

Here we are. Hopefully this explains it a bit better.
Here is the side frame of the luggage.

Mainly people that are stealing things are looking for something that is loose and can easily be hidden on their persons. If your bag gets searched, they might find your knives, but since it is attached, it would hopefully require too much effort on their end to find something to cut off the zipties and hide it on their persons. However, if they person is determined to steal your knife, then well you tried your hardest to stop them. You can always make their life a living hell by zipties on every single eyelet to the frame....=D

You know, this is a great idea, but I would not use plastic zip ties. Make yourself a mini steel cable tie with eyes on each end and use an actual lock to lock it to the frame of your luggage. Exactly how you would secure a bike tire to a bike rack. The luggage is open but everything of value is seriously secured inside.

You could just go for psychological deterrents and slip what looks to be a used condom over the handles of the knives,,, I mean if anyone looked in and saw that it would probably make them NOT want to steal it.

That is an even better idea!

I'd suggest tossing them into a bunch of dirty laundry, like Jeff said, or if your taking a suitcase try stashing them within the liner. If you can the best option would be to ship them to your destination, that way you'll have no worries about losing your blades.

Semper Fi brother!!!

This seems like a very bad idea... What kind of consequences are there for bringing knives of planes?

None as long as you CHECK the luggage in. DO NOT CARRY KNIVES WITH YOU ON YOUR CARRY ON!!!!!!!!

BTW it is also LEGAL to check in your firearms in your CHECK in luggage too as long as you follow TSA guidelines.

I think you may have miss read the the thread, the OP was asking how he could keep his knives safe in the checked luggage, checked luggage you basically drop off when you enter an air port, they take it and stow it for you, and you receive your bag back at your final destination, knives are completely legal to leave in checked luggage. His main concern seems to be, what if a baggage handler rummages through his suitcase and steals his knife, so the suggestions here are deterrents from that happening.

Jeff's skivies idea is great! lol!
As posted, I've had no issues with knives or guns in checked luggage.

I've worked for airlines. Most binrat theives are after panties. The ones after electronics and such know to go after high end or obvious baggage. Beatass old luggage and clamshells that are strapped never get hit, too hard or long to open or risk not closing. There's not alot of time to do it usually, so even burying or rolling them in clothes should help. I used to zip tie my zippers, and tsa would cut and replace them. Not sure current rules.

The tsa locks would seem to be the best suggestion

You guys are fucking bad ass thank you all for all your ideas. If you put us all together i think we could really do some seriously cool shit thanks guys you all rock...

... i know you cant lock your bag...

there's an exception to every rule.

firearms must be declared and must be in a locked case.

i have a footlocker sized Pelican case. guns go in the case, clothing gets packed around them, case gets locked. knives? no problem!

and i've got the only locked luggage on the flight.

what's that saying? "improvise, adapt, overcome!"
