So here's the thing, I'm in the market to get a new knife and I'm having a hard time deciding what to choose. Looking for a really tough, strong, heavy use, folder that I can carry all day and not have to worry about messing it up whether I'm at work, out camping, or whatever. I've had my eye on a couple like the Benchmade Adamas 275, Spyderco Paramilitary 2, Benchmade Axis Stryker, and a couple others I know I'm forgetting. My current edc has been a full-size Griptilian for the last year, but due to sentimental reasons and a pretty beat up blade I've decided to retire it. I don't have a lot of money to throw around at knives right now or I would just buy one of each. Definitely has to be under $200, no autos, assisted opening, or fixed blades, and weight isn't really a big deal as I prefer a girthier knife anyways. Whatever info, reviews, pics, etc that you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!

I can't give a long term review, but the adamas is definitely a tough and strong knife, but it's not going to be a supreme slicer by any means due to the thickness of the blade. the adamas and stryker are a little further away from each other than some other benchmade offerings as far as being beefy go... is that one in there because you like the knife? not saying anything is wrong with it, but there are other models that are beefier between the two that aren't much different in price.

Honestly, the cold steel recon or American lawman are very strong and very reasonably priced. If you want absolute strength they won't fit the bill due to the lack of metal liners, bit aside from that they are a good option (the triad lock is a very strong lock). I like my American lawman way more than I thought I would.

I have always loved the tanto style blades and really like the stryker line but I know there's obviously a pretty big difference between the two in build, beefiness, and cutting ability as well. I know it like com pairing apples, oranges, and pears, but I really like a lot about each of them. I'm also looking for something that is USA made for sure so those fell into those lines too.
I've heard a lot of good things about the Manix 2 but I just don't know if I could ever really trust that lock to be honest, I'd probably end up breaking it somehow. Haha
And sorry OfficerCamp, but I've never really been too much into Cold Steel with the exception of only like one or two of their blades. I know I'm really picky but theres not as much cash coming in as there was a couple months ago so I really want to get the most bang for my buck and something that's gonna last a really long time.

as long as you're not getting close to fixed blade use territory, I'm sure the stryker would be fine for your uses, I was just curious about that. if you're open to other suggestions, the 520 presidio is substantial knife for its size, and the 950 rift feels pretty good. I've only briefly handled a contego, but by all accounts they're good for hard folder type use. I never really cared for them because they remind me of a Klingon weapon or something.

ZT 0550, Benchmade 0275, Spyderco TUFF or Military. If you want small but very tough...Spyderco Techno in CTS-XHP, Gayle Bradley

i don't have personal experience, but is the manix2 lightweight really a tough heavy use knife compared to these others? i know the manix2 seems pretty stout, but with making it lightweight, no liners, it seems like it would lose some of it's durability.

I was thinking the same thing too, plus the lock is made of some kind of plastic that I'm sure I'd break pretty easily. At least the axis lock is metal, I'd feel a lot more confident with that.

I do like some of the ZT knife styles, but I'm not really looking for an assisted opening. I use a lot of quick one-hand deployment and retraction and having the speedsafe just makes it that much harder to close without using your other hand or having to fold it against your leg. I'm really looking for big, heavy duty functionality over just a cool looking auto or spring assist. However, I would entertain a flipper if it was beefy enough?

Maybe a Benchmade 746?

Full metal liners and the combination of axis lock and opening hole make for great one handed operation. The blade is not too thick, making it a decent slicer.

Out of the ones you listed would say ADAMAS. If your looking for a hard use folder need look no further than the 275. Any of these others could handle some abuse too.

Very nice pics, thank you. I have thought about the contego but the griptilian I have now has the Sheepsfoot blade and I'm kinda looking for something different and probably not serrated since I have pretty much demolished or broken the teeth on mine.

Zt 0550
Built like a tank, no assist.

How grippy are the metal zt scales? I have a black Kershaw leek and absolutely hate it. Almost sliced my finger off because it was so slick and small. Are ZT's really that overbuilt either? They always just seemed to me like something more flashy than rugged and functional.

They're pretty solid! Don't own one myself but handled a couple in shop.

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley may not look it, but it is a great hard use knife with an outstanding steel (M4). Check out this video for more details:
