Need some input on the Sieko 5

Yeah I've been doing some pretty serious lurking on the watch forums trying to pick up a bit of info. From what I understand the Automatics while not as accurate hold their own against the quartz. Changing and relying on batteries can be a pain, but I suppose that's the price you pay for accuracy. As for me the juries still out and but I'm leaning a bit towards the smaller Seiko 5's. Still I hope to acquire a both a good quartz and automatic sooner or later so it isn't too huge of a deal by any stretch. I didn't really realize the Eco-drive was solar however.....

Seems pretty nifty. The whole Kinetic thing makes a lot of sense IMHO. With that being said I suppose it's kind of a compromise in some regards. What would I undermine by using a kinetic movement to power the watch versus a quartz or auto ?

My kinetic is very accurate. The accuracy spec for this watch is +/- 15 seconds a month. Mine is more accurate than that.
If you haven't researched the Seiko kinetic movement, it uses a weight/pendulum like an automatic mechanical movement. But in the kinetic, the pendulum spins a generator instead of winding a spring. The generator charges a battery or a capacitor. Seiko has used both to power the quartz movement. I'm not sure which my watch has...bought it used, no box or papers. The one thing I don't know is the life expectancy of the battery or capacitor. It's also fairly heavy. Mine is 7.2 ounces on a digital scale. That's just my diver. Seiko makes many styles of kinetic watches.
Sheesh...I just read my post. Looks like a commercial. It's not...but I do like this watch.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look into them. I'm kinda paranoid about having to rely too much on batteries. They can be a pain to change/get changed so I've been looking into Autos as well as solar. With that being said I'd most likely have a bit more trust in this Kinetic movement rather than a Solar. Also seems that some feel that it is potentially more accurate than an automatic and every bit as reliable. I dunno........
