looking for a keychain knife for my keychain obviously. length should be about 2.5 inchs, no longer than 3. i looked at the byrd and spyderco ones. any other knives to look for?

The smaller Victorinox/Wenger SAKs are pretty good on the keychain. Gerber made a tiny LST small and light enough for the keychain, but I think it's been discontinued. Same story with Schrade/Imperial.

Al Mar Hawks are a good knife that'll fit on a keychain with a 2.5" blade. They've stainless handles, or nice wood handles with stainless bolsters, so riding with keys they may get marked up a lot more than something with synthetic handles if that holds any importance for you.

I have a Simonich Bitteroot on my keychain and it works out great for me. I've had it there over two years with no complaints.

An Atwood Skeeter or Booger is worth a look. Love the Booger. Skeeter works too!

Matador-

I suggest a small, simple Victorinox SAK, nothing more, nothing less. Their Escort ($4.99) would work well on a key chain or key ring, but I prefer one just slightly larger, such as the Bantam ($9.99 I think).

http://eknifeworks.com (SMKW) has the best Vic prices I know of. Go to their site and click on the red Victorinox name among the other brands listed.

I have a main key ring clipped securely to my belt, but I also have a single vehicle key that I drive with. It is attached to a Victorinox Solo model. It's easy to feel in my pocket, easy to see if I drop it, and in the unlikely event that somebody else got their grubby paws on it they would only have the vehicle key, not my house keys, etc.

I've got a ladybug on mine, but a jester would also be nice. Also the Buck Transport is a handy one to have on a keychain and one nice feature it has is that it has has to have the button pushed to open as well as close so there is absolutely no danger of it opening in your pocket...

Nothing beats the Fallkniven U2 folder for keychain use. Great steel!

Spyderco Ladybug is small and sharp.
Not a small Byrd, the quality breaks down when they are that small.

The Benchmade Benchmite II might be too big for a key chain, but it is a lot of knife for something that small.

The new Spyderco Ladybugs come now in VG-10. You can't get any better than that on a keychain folder.

Don't remember the name of it, but Gerber makes a nice 2.5" bladed knife that looks like a slightly bigger version of the black CRKT PECK. I own one. The lock on the Gerber version is better than the one on the CRKT model. It's a very thin knife that also comes with a very thin clip.

Just head to the knife section at your local Wal-Mart. It's about $15.

Vic Classic SD is what I keep on my keychains. I have a Silver Alox on my work keys and black and red ones on the other trucks. The black and reds are $9.99 at Lowes. The Silver Alox is around $25.

I have a Ka-Bar Dozier spear point but the blade is close to 3 inches.
When my Ladybug in VG10 arrives I think that will be my choice.

I keep a LM micra on one keychain and a Vic classic on another. I find that the screwdrivers on my micra get more use than any of the blades.

the Gerber Ridge?

i have one, and i stopped carrying it on my keys because it would open in my pocket

I carry a Vic Classic in a Normark sheath on my keychain.
The sheath allows me to pull the knife free
and not have to hold the whole keychain.

A Vic Bantam would be excellent in sheath like that.
