I am finishing up some projects and am trying to get some pics of my work to post, and am not having the best of luck. getting a lot of glare and shadows. parts of the knives are overly bright, and other sections are so dark that it's hard to make out much detail. I am using a standard $300 digital camera and have tried all settings, as well as flash on/off, and cannot get a quality shot. Any helpfull hints?

Natural sunlight. I found taking my shots outdoors gives better "real" imagery". Or bright halogen shop lights covered with 2 or 3 layers of cheese cloth (to diffuse the glare). Don't use the flash, rely upon the external lighting. I still suck at photos, mind you, but this help immensely. Also, do a search on a light box (maybe from Indian George). Building one of these (or buying one) will isolate the problems that you are having.

I bought light cube from ebay for about 25 or 30 dollars (I got one that was 3 feet cubed) It works quite well, and folds up to a flat disc about the size of a plate, which works well for me because I dont have a lot of extra space to store an entire photography setup.

Thanks, fellas. A fuzzy/gloomy shot of knives have untold hours of meticulous work to represent our best bungling efforts dosn't make much sense, dose it?
