put some salt and pepper cause i have that in my daypack they tasted pretty good kind of like shrip. the garlic grass flavor stay on them which added a little more flavor. so if you guys who know what i did wrong could correct me or let me know if i did it rite it would be much appreciated.:thumbup:

i usually see people just crack them open and suck on them to get what they want out of them. I think you have to have alot of them to make a meal out of it though.

I rip the tail off, eat the meat in the tail. Then suck out the goodness in the body, wash down with Tequila.

You need hotsauce though....

to suck out the stuff in the front of the shell i would need the tequila first:D so theres no need to clean the meat before you eat:cool:

Ya done good for a first try.

The heads are overrated, but that's JMHO.

Next time get bigger dads, or more of em. They can be a bit of work if you only got little ones.

I usually carry either a lemon the little lemon juice packets, but hot sauce is really good too.

Also, pay attention to the quality of the water. They are the bottom-feeders of the bottom feeders.

ka mine were not floating so they must not have been done all the way the water was flowing realy good at the moment in the summer i probly wouldn't try it from this spot cause the water only crawls through. lemon that sound diffrent and for hot sause is that just personal prefrance

Good job for a first time. To eat them, I grab the tail in one hand and head in the other. Twist as you pull apart. You can bite lightly and pull the tail right out of the shell. If they are seasoned well, when you suck the heads, you get a lot of flavor. Usually they are seasoned with a cajun spice shake. When you eat them, their tails should usually be curled up. That indicates they were live when dropped in the boiling pot. You don't want to eat them if they were dead before cooking. The ideal way to prepare them before boiling would be to 'purge' them. Put them live into water with lots of salt. maybe 1/2 cup per bucket. Stir them for a few minuites. I think this causes them to purge their stomachs. Don't do it too long, because you want them to be alive when you cook. The dead ones will float in the salt water. This is all in a perfect situation. Boil them for 4 minutes and take off heat. Leave in water for 3 more minutes. Enjoy.

cajun spice shake i will look for this stuff next time i go to the store. the tails where cruled i forced them srtaight for the pic's

You need what's called Old Bay Seasoning. Boils the dads in that and you are good to go.

+1 on the Old Bay on any shell fish.

I think the heads are a little over rated too...but then again that depends on just how hungry you are.

Old Bay is the best for this but you can also use crab boil ( it's basically the same thing just packaged differently) as it seems to be easier to find. I agree with most here that the heads are overrated but if you're starving you can almost double the available food by sucking the heads. Also, you may have picked this up from the recommended seasoning but, you can do crabs the same way if you happen to be in an area with crabs.

Funny thing..I caught waaaay more crayfish/crawdaddys up in the cold north than I have ever found and caught now that I live down south.

But looks like you're doing it right - season to preference, eat the tails, suck the legs, body if you like. You do need a lot to make a full meal.

No big deal , they're just miniature lobsters !!
Old Bay seasoning is terrible !
Where are the grits ?

Looks like you did good to me ,mudbugs, crawdads crayfish, taste good... I like new potatoes and carrots with mine...little onion for flavor... not much on the spicey sidefor me..

Old Bay seasoning is terrible !

Better not let anyone from MD hear you say that. I believe it's a hanging offense, and rightly so. :p That stuff goes great on everything, shellfish, freedom fries, eggs, popcorn, corn on the cob, all sorts!!
