Need Suggestions for an EDC for Someone that’s Never Owned a Knife.

...I have a very good friend that has recently been asking me about what kind of knife he could get and carry....
He’s not a blue jeans kinda guy.... He’s a financial advisor and he looks the part.... It would have to be a bit on the lightweight side.
I also think he’d do best with a flipper with a liner or frame lock. Easy to open, safe, and easy to close for him....
So, what would you suggest? ....

try a hybrid edc box cutter like the
gerber EAB (excange-a-blade) lite
do consider it
mainly because at some point
any brand new knife
would require sharpening.
and anyone new to knives
will be much happier not having
to invest time and money
on sharpening and maintainence.
for now, be a real friend
and save your busy friend
the need to learn
the confounding skill
of sharpening;
when a standby pack or two
of box cutter blade replacements
will get the job done hassle-free.

I am still hanging out for the folding click and cut. Which should hopefully be awesome.

Skip Kershaw, CRKT, etc. Don't bother with assisted opening. Don't bother with 8Cr13Mov or lesser steels. It's 2022 and you don't have to.

Get him a $40 knife but get him a really good $40 knife. This is the Sencut line from WE. I have a few of these. You'll be hard-pressed to find better value for the money. Despite owning much more expensive knives, I've been carrying the Sencut Snap a lot lately. I appreciate the combination of a modern flipper with the classic look of wood scales. The action and ergonomics are good. It uses the same 9Cr18Mov as the Civivi knives with WE's excellent heat treatment.

Single action OTF… or a Kershaw leek. The leek was one of my first knives and it’s what got me into folding knives in general. Non knife people usually like the speedsafe. At least I did.

I'll be the one to say the only knife that ever cut me on closing is a Leek. Put me off liner locks forever. My recommendation is SAK. Something with scissors for sure and a corkscrew.
