2002 is a very significant year at the Busse Shop. I started making custom knives on a full-time basis in 1982. In 1992, Jennifer and I introduced the Busse Combat line in order to bring more affordable “standardized” models to the market. 2002 marks my twentieth year as a custom maker and stands as the 10 year anniversary of the Busse Combat line.

In light of these anniversaries, we would like to offer a commemorative knife for each of these events. The 20th anniversary blade will be a sole authorship custom piece and the 10th anniversary blade will be part of the Busse Combat line.

I’m looking for suggestions as to which design features, sizes, styles, etc. you guys would like to see in these special models. They should be different from each other and it is important to note that I will not re-issue a discontinued model for the Busse Combat model. Feel free to comment on your favorite models and which parts of these that you like the most. Likewise, feel free to suggest combinations or styles that we have yet to make. . . .

Yours in nuclearesearch,

Jerry Busse

For the sole authorship piece, I think a really refined Battle Mistress style knife with an 11-12" blade would be awesome! It would be more like a short sword than a knife though.:D

For the new addition to the combat line, I'd like to see a 3/16" thick knife around the size of the Badger Attack or Natural Outlaw. Maybe with a clip point and a slightly different handle shape. (something like the nicely contoured handles you did on the new customs would be excellent!) I think that would be a near perfect addition to MY collection anyway!...

It is going to be interesting to see what everyone comes up with!

Congratulations on your anniversaries Jerry. You definitely have accomplished your goal of putting out great knives with affordable prices. How about something in the line of the Steel Heart with a straight handle, clip point/BAT point, mammoth ivory scales, 3/16" Kryptonite? What about a Persian style blade?

Hi Jerry
Congrats on your milestones I hope I can last at least half as long!
How about a Infi version of the stealth hawk with out the serations for the combat line, same size & shape with the cord wrap or marcita scales ? and a dagger for the special LE finish & Black paper marcita scales? Is this a contest?I never seam to win any of the others:mad: :D

How about an over size BM with the new style handle that you used at NY. But this one has more of a ZTSJ profile.

2nd one is about the size of a LMS, new style handle, 3/16", ZTSJ profile.

Or the styles above, both with "quad grinds":D :D

Hey Jerry..

I'll have to go with David on this..
An INFI Stealth Hawk,,would be Sweet....

The only other thing,,but which I would like to see as a standard piece would be a Satin Jack Junior..

That would be Really nice...

Congratulations, you have really made an impact on the knife world :) I think a pure fighter style battle mistress would really kick some a**. Maybe seek the blade length the same, but fully serrate the blade with the same serrations on the Flying Tiger, then maybe add a nice 4" razor sharp top edge, and ofcourse add the B.A.T.? :)

Althought that INFI Steel Hawk sounds great too.......Oh hell, anything would be great :)

I'd probably say a full sized knife like the BM for the 20th ann. & a smaller sized one like a new badger or Steel Stealth Hawk for the 10th ann.

I too like the oversized BM idea :) 12" IMHO is perfect :)
May be some curves and swedges as well.

Jerry,

Heartiest Congratulations!!! I've raised a virtual e-Mabel in salute to your great blades and success in setting a very high bar for nuclear cutlery. :) Add my vote for a "big knife & little knife" combo to celebrate these auspicious anniversaries.

20th anniversary knife:
10"-12" bladed bowie fighter (ala' your Light Knight on steroids) with sharpened clip for back cuts. INFI blade of course. Zero edge geometry would be nice. Premium handle materials (ebony, ironwood, burl (buckeye, maple, walnut, burr oak), oosic, red stag, cocobolo, etc) in a beefy version of the Satin Jack handle. Maybe add bolsters with some engraving like Tony Palmieri (IIRC) had on that Drop Dead Gorgeous SH-E he had customized.

10th anniversary knife:
Normark's idea of a SJ Jr sounds extremely good to me. You could make it from 3/16" stock in a 3.5"-4" blade size that would bring relief to Busseholics mourning the demise of the LMS. Otherwise, David's idea for a Steel Hawk would be very sweet too.

Congrats again and keep up the extraordinarily fine work,
Greg

An MS or LMS with a 4.75 inch blade?

Something double edged maybe?

With SS screws instead of brass tubes?

AAAAAAAAAAAAHH!

Bill

Sorry to repeat, but...

20 yr: A BM-E with a thicker, rounder handle, and a 12" blade with a distal taper on it (not too extreme, but definitely evident distal taper). A slight recurve on that baby would be great too. This would be the ultimate heavy chopper and also a passable machete due to the taper. I've been waiting for this model ever since I learned about Busse knives.

10 yr: a knife with a 4.75" blade, 5/32" or 3/16" thick, satin finish, desert ironwood handle that's straight, rounded, and thick. A modified tanto tip would be great (like a tanto but with belly) or a clip point. This thing would be AWESOME!

BTW, I think both of these knives would be absolutely awesome in a combat grade version and part of the regular combat grade series.

Kukri

(I used a kukri last weekend for some chopping and the blade chipped badly, so INFI would be great)

Folder :D

BTW: You could call our Euro 4 inch model something like a Satin Jack jr.

Andrew Lynch :

A BM-E with a thicker, rounder handle, and a 12" blade with a distal taper on it (not too extreme, but definitely evident distal taper). A slight recurve on that baby would be great too.

I was thinking the exact same thing, with the minor modification of extending the blade out to about 14", that is the sweet spot for me as above that it becomes to difficult to do knife like work with.

You could always bring back the MS or LMS, w/ quilted handles, LMS preferable, with a Sigman IMB sheath. 4.5 inch blade is a neat upgrade, but always liked the original size. Maybe the original with a slightly more flexible carry system.

I was just thinking about this...I think it should be an original
Steel Heart(same handle bolts, bead blasted, original logo, and a sheath that resembles the original sheath)but instead of ATS-34 as was the
original,it would be INFI and would have an anniversary logo.

Straight Handled Battle Mistress 12- 13" blade. Old parrot beak style pommel. Micarta handles. Light distal taper. 2" wide, drop point blade. 1/4" thick INFI. Kydex sheath. Crinkle coat.

I'll take two:D
