Need Suggestions for Special Models.

Jerry, you have alot of big knives and it seems the majority of everyone here would like to see a small user in the 4 to 5 inch range or a SJ junior. As for a commemerative every knife maker does a bowie or other big knife, why?Do something as different as your knives are such as one of your earlier fighters or a combat 5 to 6 inch utility blade.

I haven't read the other replies so I'm sorry if i repeat someones suggestions.

The 20th An. Piece should be the original Steel Heart with satin blade and special handle materail. perhaps a stabalized Thuya Burl or something.

The 10 year Combat piece should be the (Busse Mother) A straight handle Battle Mistress with a the resiprene handle of the basic line at about 6" for a good grip and a 14" blade. Wow what a knife.

Just read some of the posts. A Double edged boot knife style would be awesome. About a 3.5 to 4" blade with maybe a small blood groove. that would be sweet for SOB carry or boot carry.

And I think a Production run of Dragon's Fang would be great. LOL. Look at all the finger grooves that had to be done by hand.:p

I'm still a bit of a newbie, but The Flying Tiger is the nicest knife that I've ever seen from any manufacturer. More importantly, though, when I used to visit my cousin at Ohio State they had buckets of beer at the local bars. Putting beer in large buckets is brilliant. Do they still have that in Ohio?

I read in an earlier post about a knife that inspired Jerry's knife making. I think it was a bowie made for his father, can't remember the specifics, but I think a custom version of that knife would be great for the 20th anniversary edition.
And how about the folder for the 10th. :p

I also think a Khukuri would be a superb battle blade. The Khukuri is with out a doubt the most widely used and feared combat knife in history. If Busse made a version or this legendary blade in INFI it would be a truly awesome combat knife!

Hey, maybe I'm crazy but I've got an idea for your 20th anniversary........Jerry, what was one of the very first knives that you were proud to present as a Busse Knife? I'd say take that and make an INFI version of it, and something special like a new handle material or blade engraving.

That would not only tie your 20th anniversary right back to the time everything started, but probably bring back a design hardly anyone, if anyone, has ever seen before.

What ya think?

It's time for bed, think I'll go to sleep before I babble anymore :)

Great ideas, all...

i think to commemorate the 20-year anniversary, tho, one would need a 20-inch knife: perhaps a 13-14" bladed Matulis-style; or Wakizashi, like a mini Dragon-Fang, with a 6-7 inch handle (One-handed).
Full-On INFI, natch~...
For the 10-year anniversary, plainly, a 10-inch knife is required: less length than a Natural Outlaw or Satin Jack, a 5" bladed INFI masterpiece; Perhaps with a usable-bellied Drop Edge, so it can double in the kitchen on food or at the workbench on leather, with a 5" Iron-Wood or linen Micarta handle. (i liked some of the handle material ideas from RokJok, since he named quite a few). Of course, any Busse knife (it goes without saying) should be able to dress out game or defend one's person, so a stout & sharp tip is needed, perhaps a bit of an edge on the top couple of inches, too...
Just my 10 & 20 cents worth...
Yours in Nuclear=Powered Anniversary Dreams,
Climber Clif

I would like to see as a 10th year anniversary type of knife which would become a standard model to the CG line a Busse version of the Ka-Bar USMC knife. Infi steel, flat micrata slabs, guard, the same style with a Busse flair and if possible kept within a price point of the basic models. Call it the terrorist threat and every serviceman could probabally afford it.

20th an. special

Keep 'em coming! Great suggestions, one and all. Your input is so different than what I had planned. That's why I so often turn to the "Nuclear Test Crew".

Thanks,

Oh, and Ankle Pocket. . . beer in buckets?. . . hmmmmm. . . . those boys down in Columbus have always been known to be light drinkers, mostly because they don't have any good beer down there. ;)
We drink 55 gallon drums of Carling in Wauseon. . . . buckets are for refills.

Jerry

Ya know, I'm liking the idea from hstdist for a Busse version of the Kabar USMC more and more........

Always liked that style knife, but never cared for Kabar.

10 year anniversary: A 10" to 12" fighting Bowie with the blade shaped like the Bagwell Hell's Belle.

20 year anniversary: A full sized scimitar.

10th year anniversary: I like the idea of a carryable, smaller piece. Like a Satin Jack Jr.

20th: A gladius...in Infi. 14" leaf-shaped blade, 20" overall.

Jerry--

Warmest congratulations on 20 years of amazing success! Even ten years ago, if anyone had said that a high-end knifemaker could develop a new knife steel that would hands-down whip anything it competed against, he would have been laughed at. You've proven many things in your career, and INFI is, obviusly, your crowning achievement so far.

If INFI is your crowning achievement, the Busse Warranty--make that Guarantee--is your most telling public statement. The Busse Combat Knife Co. stands behind the user in the field, no matter what, period. A statement that is simple, straightforward, and strong--yet speaks volumes about your blades and your mission.

I think it follows that your most impressive knives are those that take fullest advantage of what Busse & INFI offer together, and that's durability in all respects. Toughness, strength, edge holding, stain resistance...big knives that are designed to take all manner of abuse, chew it up, and spit it out in shreds.

From your description of the commemorative editions, sounds like one will be a one-of-a-kind custom and the other a production run. Whatever you come up with will be exciting, and you have a lot of good suggestions here. I will say that the 12-15" blade, machete-style BM has been a hope of mine for a long time, and I continue to hope that one day we'll see something like it. I also think it fits the Busse image in spades.

All The Best,

Will

WE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NEED A BATTLE MISTRESS WITH A 15" BLADE. I WOULD SO BUY TWO OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RYU's to-date unauthorized book on the first 20 years of the Busse story, titled:

FIRST SCORE

subtitle: "The long and the short of it..."

15" plus 4"? This is good. This is very good...maybe if you made one of the blades one-inch longer...? nah, probably too much
