hi all .i hope since this subforum is dead it will get some attention.my name is Jeff and own a local hobby store for R/C ect...i also sharpen knives and the chefs and cooks that bring me there knives are just horrible..i know i could do well selling kitchen knives. so i am asking the members here for some help. i know you all dont have factories but if i get a decent selection of various knives from a few of you i could go to the restuarants and make a good pitch..i would like to keep the majoity under the $200 price range knowing all have to profit. and i know after a while over that price range will sell also..our economy here is best in the nation and have lots of new eating places opened in last few years..now the cost of living in the oil places doesnt mean they have excess cash..and i dont think they all think that the japanese selection is the only quality lines available..but would hurt..thanks jeff

Jeff,
Glad things are doing well for you and your store. I mean no personal disrespect, but, you have to be practical about this. You are brand new here and no one ever hear of you. You have not filled out your profile, don't mention your location, background with knives, .... nothing. You can't seriously expect people to send you hundreds of dollars of knives unless you plan on buying them up front. Commission sales requires a lot more foundation and trust than what you have given us. You may be a stand up guy, but from what is given so far a person would have to be a fool to enter into a deal with you.

Also, realize that the regular knifemakers get these offers at least once a month. Most are in poor English with offers to buy thousands of dollars in knives...just ship them to me and I'll sell them....and send you a check. We ignore and delete them without reading most.

Well sorry...I had no intention of getting knives without paying and seems clear in there sales line on this site. I have been self-employed since 1978 and know how construction of business and retail works. But no disrespect taken...I sure hope I didn’t imply I wanted knives on credit. And I didn’t even think of the scenarios you mentioned. Here in North Dakota I still leave my door unlocked and rarely lock my pickup. Sure all the scammers are here to but seems they don’t get the prize like other places. But I may be ignorant on that. With only 600 thousand in the state it seems everyone knows someone that knows another that you know. I do have dealerships lined up with a few knife distributors...and most minimum orders are 5g..I know here it would be 1-3 knives from most makers. Just wanted a variety of US made customs to offer in different steels. There are a few here that make product in my range, and if they wanted to sell a few I would be interested if style and price is right...I do understand everyone’s entitled to their own thoughts and opinions but there’s always a different way to take things they read.. That’s one reason I don’t partake in social media so much as there’s no personal touch in conversations..I do get info from forums like this one and try to make things clear..jeff

thanks Darrin..i have few appointments this week and next to talk to a few kitchen supervisers and cooks...many dont have there own knives and use the supplied..at the more expensive or not chain places there are more with there own knives...makes sense i guess. i just want to meet them and offer a few free sharpened knives for them and then show them some quality knives and let them use them for a few days and get feed back to guage what i should do as this is a diversification for my bussiness, with low population we all have to diversify on main street...i have learned to kinda market asess then make plan..so i will call next week after a few meets...thanks much jeff
