Hey you guys who have built the No Weld Grinder, I need a few questions answered as to some measurements that have me puzzled. It's almost ready to test, but I want to make sure I've got it right. Any mods you have made?

Hopefully Tracy will come by here and give you some input, everything I know of him tells me that he'd be the first to help out if you had any questions.

ask away. i was the first one to build one from that set of plans and so that must make me the expert right ;):foot:

OK, will do. How high from your plywood mounting base is the bottom of your tool arm socket tube.
My vertical tubes are 13" and 15" and I've seen pics of a finished machine that are obviously different than the plans, so it's a little confusing.

Also the plans specify a 14" shaft which seems way long when I get everything arranged on the plywood base and try to get the pulleys lined up.
Is that clear? Yeah, like mud.

Hi. Somebody looking for me? heh
1st, call if you get stuck. I'm around most evenings. I have a day job that is not knives so I take care of this stuff evenings and weekends.

Q1. The measurement is not critical here but if you measure up from the plywood base to the bottom of one of the uprights, go up 3/4" and you'll be fine. Basically, if you just get those two columns bolted on, you'll be fine. (The tool bar socket tube can be mounted up or down on these upright columns. This also is not a critical measurement.)

Q2. The shaft is 14" to accomodate up to a 3 step pulley (and a 4 step if you line it up close). Cut off any excess shaft depending on your pulley selection. The first one I built I used a 12" shaft but changing a belt out was problem since the pulley was so close to the base tube.

Hope that helps. Call me if you run into anything else.

Thanks Tracy,
I'm using two 3" pulleys and my Base metal is not as wide as plan. Looks like 12" or 13" would work better. Now I get to cut off the ugly keyway slot and do it better.:D
