Need to buy my own hand tools

For pliers I am a huge fan of knipex, electrical crimpers are always Klein, groove joint pliers are channel lock , my flush cuts are knipex. Ratcheting wrenches are gear wrench, invest in some expensive ratchets you get what you pay for and some extensions with knurled spaces on them.

Good to hear Chris. I wish you the best of luck. Sounds like you have a very interesting job, and you will be much more confident having solid tools. :)

Craftsman of today are no what they were years ago. :(

Your right on that. I was just using a (new) craftsman ratchet the other day. The lever was really loose, and it had alot of play when I put on an extension. Then I pulled out an (Old) probably 80's craftsman ratchet and it was completely solid. Like night and day.

It makes me sick that Craftsman let themselves go downhill like this :(

So long as your semi near a sears I say buy a 200-300 piece craftsman set (100-200$), or consider lowes kobalt(good tools too)

then get the craftsman combination wrenches you like(100-200), or if you only use metric or standard buy some wright grip wrenches(100-200$)

you should know what you use the most(tool wise), buy a quality version (in my case a 3/8 ratchet from snap on or matco)

sockets aren't really worth upgrading ever imho

as you grow mechanically you will know what you need better but that should make you more independent

Snapon has a killer warranty, I watch a guy who royally screwed up the handle on his screwdriver hand it to the snap on truck driver (like an ice cream truck for mechanics). The guy looked at it, shrugged, and replaced it no questions asked.

Snap on is pricey but in my opinion worth it, though I dot have any, but I have used it. I personally have some older craftsman and newer kobalt, I wish I had all older craftsman or snapon but oh well, you get what you can afford or what is given to you
