Need to catch (or kill) a mouse

A saltine with a thick layer of peanut butter or cheese spread on one side . . . and a fresh coat of ammonium tri-iodide on the other.

Not a bad idea really. Curious, if salt would cause some kind of detonation though. Wear eye protection. Refer to your high school chemistry classes for more. Be good to make sure your pets are policed up as well.

Bumpity bump... and if there has been no mouse, which method/poison did you use? Always good to gather more information on what has worked...
Zero

Take a brand new trap and rub the end of the activation bar with 400 grit sandpaper so it is really smooth and there is no metal burr at the end (there normally is as they are sheared). Rub it with a little vegetable oil. Bait the trap with a piece or Kit Kat, or some other proprietary chocolate covered bar. Tie the bait on with fuse wire or fishing line. Set the trap to a hair trigger on the edge of the bar.

The best type of trap are the ones made of metal where you have to lift the bait to set it off.

Just remember 'chocolate for mice and bacon for rats'. It never fails and was told to me by an exterminator from Rentokil in the UK.

ammonium triiodide is a very bad idea
once dry, a FLY will set it off
and it'll send iodine all over the place
hope you're not holding the trap when that happens

tyr_shadowblade is chock full of bad ideas. I are gifted.

Once upon a time a brother of mine tried this. Mouse-sized concussion mines. The concept was amusing, and it does work, but he didn't use enough agent so he needed to put faceless Mr Mouse out of his misery.

As Fire Investigator said, wear yer goggles and keep your pets locked out of the room. A blast that will rip a mouse's face off would turn the tip of a pup's tongue to a bloody fountain of woe . . . so let's not do that.

I have a little mouse running around my computer room right now. My two house cats are all puffed up and strutting their stuff. It's comical to watch the hunted and hunter scenario being played out. If they don't get it in a couple of hours I will be using some of the advise in this post. Snap traps with PB work well for me, and I am going to add string to the bait pan, good idea. Right now it's fun watching the cats earn all that cat food they have been getting for years.

Try stuffing any access holes with glass-fibre wool(roof insulation) the bastards love this stuff but it doesn't love them....scratch to death! Rather grisly though.

In the EU we have these plastic mouse traps which require no bait, they are very curious to sniff the detonator as it has some substance impregnated on it and bang. My best trap's tally in 12 months is 2 shrews, 4 voles,5 field mice and 8 house mice. That's ONE trap and they don't need rebaiting. a Rat made off with one though!!!
