I have been up to a bunch of forging and haven't finished up much in a while. I have the press now and have been doing a lot of damascus and can't seem to get my fill of it:D Anyhow I am doing my first show this October here in Ohio and need to get on the ball finishing some of these blades up:) This picture represents about a third of the blades forged out. Any words of encouragement to get a fire lit under me?:D

Man, you and me both! I've got about 7 or 8 in various states of completion. Along with a couple of sheaths. Sometimes I just get "maker's block" and just focus on the wrong projects :D

Thanks guys. I find myself wanting to fire up the forge every time I get out into the shop and the blades are piling up:) I guess I need to hide the hammers from myself.

Hah, me too! My excuse is that it really sucks having to forge in -30 so do as much as I can now and finish what I can in the winter.

Encouragement? How you gonna sell knives that aren't finished? :)

If you don't sell the knives....sooner or later the forging will come to a halt!!

It looks like you have some cool knives in the making there. I know I would like to see some of them finished up.
On the other hand though there is no reason to stop forging em out. If the pile gets to high just start selling forged blanks.

I have to admit that there are times that all I wanna do is forge. I spent quite a bit of time at the forge yesterday got some stuff done and I feel good today. Now for a week or two of finish work BAH! Oh well.

Take care.

I always feel good for a couple of days after forging too. Selling forged blanks?? People buy forged blanks?

I'm quite the opposite. I'm a professionnal polisher, i don't forge, in don't really like grinding, neither adjusting guards and handles... What i like is just taking a ground blank to mirror polish.

I can see the dust flying from here; as you wail away, finishing those beauties.

In your rush to complete these knives, keep in mind the quality you are shooting for; don't settle for less.

I'd rather have one great knife as opposed to ten mediocre ones.

Hows that grinding jig coming?

Fred

I am not going to be rushing to get them finished. I am already doing some things to these that I have not did to knives before so I am excited to see how these turn out. Haven't got a chance to get on the plunge jig yet as the baby had been sick and I haven't got out to the shop. Might make it out tonight. Now need to resist the temptation to get a billet put together:)
