Need to insulate my oven

I have a small oven [toaster] that I used to treat knife blades after they have been in the kiln. I need to wrap something around it to insulate it as it will not quite reach 400 degrees. I thought you folks might have some easy suggestions what I should use.
Thanks for looking.

I was hoping for something a little more permamant/less messy than fiberglass. Any other thoughts?

If you dont want the ’fluff of fibreglas, Rigid fibreglas insulation can handle upward of 900°F. It cuts & shapes real nice. Is used to cover steam boilers & such. But you wont find that at neighborhood builders store.

For a Homegamer, Rockwool is probably next easiest found. Its similar to rigid fibreglas.

Be careful overwrapping heat appliances like toaster ovens. They may have interior wiring what wont withstand the higher temperature contained.

I drop the wire rack all the way to the bottom and lay the pan that came with the toaster on top of the knives. Makes a big difference.

Edit
I have the cheapo Aldi toaster oven and if just lay a knife on the wire rack and turn it up it barely gets any straw color, but dropping the rack and putting the pan in gets deep blues.

Why not pour some refractory below the coils, let it dry, rotate to the next side, and repeat until you've done 5 of the 6 sides? You could even leave a port for a thermocouple somewhere.

I'd just get a new toaster for 20 bucks. Get a thermocouple and keep track of the heat and just adjust fire. If your shooting for 450 and it's only giving you 425 then set it for 475.

What Valknut said^^^ just invest in a better oven. By the time you run around buying materials you still have an old tired oven.

Thanks guys for your suggestions. The oven is a pretty good one but it is in my cold shop which is why it has trouble making temp. Stacy, I like your idea of the water heater blanket gonna try that this week.
Best to all.
