ive used paypal for a lot of years and have had this circumstance come up before and everything turned out ok. Granted i was using ebay when this would happen. But anyway, there is a guyb on here who said he wants to by my leatherman but he lives in the Philippines and wants it aent to a New York address. Should I assume everything will be ok as long as his paypal address is the one in New York? The users name is GilG.
Thanks.

I would say send it wherever he wants as long as you receive funds first...I would be cautious of New York knife laws though. Alot of retailers won't sell to New York anymore, more specifically New York City.

A lot depends on his level of feedback too. If he has dozens of successful deals then I would worry less. However......as stated above be careful with New York.

He's been a member here since 2007 so I highly doubt that he was waiting around to get a free Leatherman but you never know. As for PayPal if you want to have their protection make sure that the address he asked you to send to has been verified with that account.

I have two different addresses in the US listed in my paypal account but are of close friends who are happy to accept wharever it is in the US I have bought this week and ship it on to me. Two fold, lets me get things that sellers list as "CONUS" only and saves people doing the (albeit small) extra associated with sending to me here. It may also be that I have a box of stuff being sent over and combining all the small stuff into a medium box full of small stuff can save me lots of $$s on shipping. So I of course don't see the alarm bells ringing about the two address thing, ESPECIALLY with the amount of time and history that seller has here. As is always the case, it IS up to YOU who you sell to and YOU are the only one that needs to be comfortable with the arrangement.

I think all you want to know is will you be covered if the Leatherman never makes it all the way to him?

As long as the PayPal payment says you are covered by the seller protection, and you ship to the address PayPal gives you, and you get proof of delivery to that address (with signature if $250 or more), you are covered.
It doesn't matter what happens after that.

Thats exactly NOT what I wanted to know. I already said I have been doing paypal for years. Sold $20k in one year once. I talked to a different seller who dealt with him and he quickly reaponded and told me he had a sucessful transaction.

As sort of mentioned before, I found it hard to believe that he was a was trying to pull a scam for a free leatherman thats worth less than $100.

THANKS

You ask for advice, another member offers their view on the issue trying to help YOU, and this is your response?

Forgive me, I thought you were concerned about the addresses when the only question in your post was "Should I assume everything will be ok as long as his paypal address is the one in New York?"

I have no knowledge of the member in question whatsoever.

Good luck.

Really?

#1 - You had a question as to whether or not someone was legit to deal with.

#2 - You made this thread, titled it "Need to know if this guy is shady" and put his username in for all to see. Not the most tactful thing to do.

#3 - You figured it would be prudent to check him out by inquiring with other people who had done business with him and/or researching his history.

I think that step 3 should have been step 2 and then this thread would not have been necessary.
