So I've got $40 burning a hole through my paypal account. I can spend more than $40 on a knife, but I don't want to triple that amount or anything. I'm looking for a smallish traditional. What would you get?

Right now the front runner is:
Case Peanut in Chestnut bone with CV blade.

You've already picked one of the nicest small traditionals, so why are we still talking about it?

Go get the peanut and become one with the cult.

:D

Carl.

LOL! Thanks Carl!

I already have a Peanut that was my grandfather's and I love it. I just never carry it because I'd hate to lose it.

I will probably order the CV Peanut, I just wanted to see if the experts had any equally good suggestions. :)

im pretty sure all (or atleast most of) us will say get the 'nut :P. so save the time and just order it already XD

I'd get a mini copperhead. I recommend the blue bone, but they are all nice.

Your "front runner" is a very nice small knife as well. The MCH is only available in stainless.

I'd pick a wharncliffe mini trapper in cv without the rancher etch. A little more than 40 but not much. Heres a shot to compare the peanut mini and tiny t

I have one of these due in this week. It fits the bill as well as the Peanut you describe (which I have).

Case Knives Amber Bone CV Stockman w/punch
Item# CAML120264 $39.95 USD 1 $39.95 USD

Take a look at the GEC Boy's Knife; more money but a very nice carry knife. Everyone seems to love 'em.

If you want a Case, that CV peanut is as good as any.

I'd prefer a Boker though, considering they cost about the same.

Why not a Case Sodbuster Yellow Delrin CV and one or two Rough Rider?

... the Case Peanut would also be a good choice or if you prefer stainless steel why not go with a Buck of the 30x series?

There are several great choices, but the Soddie is a great knife indeed...

The Queen #2 jack @ 3-3/8" closed is just a step up from a peanut, and has beautiful stag bone and D2 steel.

BFC dealer Mike Latham has them here (a little over half way down the page): http://www.collectorknives.net/queen-knives.html
Dang I'm supposed to be saving for another Charlow. You know I don't have ANY self control but you still post links to places with good deals on knives I want. I was just going to look. Yeah that's it I'll just look at the jack that mamba was talking about. Hey what's this a Dan Burke no I'm just looking. Teardrop jack why did I sell mine again, better get another one just in case, you know we might not see one again for a while. Wonder if they got...

Living in Owensboro, KY you need to be spending your money on Burgoo, not knives! :)

I guess you missed my last name Bosley, my money COMES from burgoo. My family owns the Moonlite BBQ Inn. We are celebrating our 50 th Anniversary this sun the 28 th. we are throwing a party for the world. Everyone is invited free food and games for the kids live music and a huge eat at moonlite everyday free for a year giveaway. I have a Charlow drawing as well as a set of green river sheep skinners that are pretty nice. You have to be present to win but if anyone on BF would like to attend I will provide lodging just pm me and I'll reserve you a room at the Inn.

Where do you live flint? Burgoo is pretty regional not a lot of people outside of daviess county ky even know what burgoo or mutton are about.

Here's a couple boning knives I use to trim sheep just to post a knife. You could get the red handled Graton for a little less than 40 ,a good commercial boner made in Sheffield

Mercator K55K?
The one in my back pocket right now was forgotten until I saw this thread, its very light and thin. Blade can take a great edge, lockup is solid, its attractive (at least I think it is), and its a great slicer

Everyone should have a merc at least once I didn't think I'd like em nearly as much as I do. There's a reason these have been around without changing for so long.

I would get the Case Peanut if you need to stay within your 40 dollar budget. If you can spend a tad under 70 bucks, I'd definitely buy a GEC Pemberton. It's a step up in size from the peanut but is still on the small size being only 2 3/4 closed.
The blade wider than the peanut and it is a big knife considering its small size (a contradiction but you need to hold one to know what I mean).
Over 3"....the sky's the limit!!!!!
