As usual, my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, and as usual, I had no idea what to tell her. Pretty much everything that I really want falls into two categories: I’ve already bought it for myself, or it’s too expensive. She suggested that maybe she would just buy me something at the SECKS this September – not a bad idea, all and all

.

My birthday was last Thursday. Friday, my wife was admitted to the hospital with some new complications to her already chronic health problems. Not likely to be life threatening, but definitely very scary, especially for her. Tonight, she’s still in the hospital, and we don’t know how long this stay will be.

I think I would like to let my wife buy me a knife for my birthday, but I want it to be something special, something that I can carry with me at all times. Something beautiful that I can take out and look at and think of her.

A folder, because fixed blades entail too many legal problems. I wear suits to work, so it has to be small and light. Mostly sweats at home, so that means it needs a clip. Most of all, it has to be special.

Your suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Dave

Sorry to hear about your wife!About what price range are we talking about...For around $100.00 you can get a Bench Made 940 they are very nice $350.00 you can get a small Senebza they are really special.Hope your wife gets better. William

Price range would probably be up to around $500 +/-. Most likely not production, but you never know -- maybe there's something out there that I haven't considered. And definitely not tactical.

The Sebenza is an extremely well crafted knife, but it's not something that I would consider beautiful. Thanks for the input, anyway.

For a dress knife, I will pick a WH over a small sebenza, or umfan or whatever. They are a little too big for office carry, IMO. The WHs have a thinner blade that makes cutting much easier. To me this is highly preferable in most situation where you don't need a small workhorse. And, yes I own a Lg. Sebbie and 2 WHs

I think William Henry's are about the nicest knives you can get to go with a suit. Whenever I wear my suit I carray a Damascus Lancet (msrp $395)

It was a limited run, so good luck in finding one.

There was another special run that you can still get though through knifeart.com that was a apple coral Lancet with a Blue Paua Shell thumbstud. In a word---- Gorgeous.

Hope this helps!
