need your input : survival/hog finisher!!

Great excuse to buy more knives!!:D

seriously though, I think I got those bases covered as well, with several other folders and a hawk.

Got another hog hunt coming up this saturday! So far very pleased with the kabar kukri, lots of chopping and no rolled edge or deforming. Some mild stropping tonight and it shaves with the factory angle! I am SO going to hurt myself with this thing! Also SO gonna take it with me sat;)

One last deer hunt tomorrow for us here, good luck every one.

P.S. got that secret cache of dough back up so if anyones got any more suggestions let me know quick!! So I can order it before sat. Also any suggestions on how to keep my wife from killing me with it:footinmou  :D

OK, first off, you should check out Larry Harley's site, Lonesome Pine Knives . He does use dogs for his boar & blade hunts, but I think you should pay attention to the features of his hog knives. Note the good point, broad blade, sharpened or well ground false edge on the spine & clip. If you plan to stab with it, (and you should) then forget any knife with a rounded point. The blade shape must present the point to the target, rather than the edge .

There is another whole segment of the blade market that you guys have ignored once again. Many reputable sword makers also offer short swords and great big knives that would fill your requirements perfectly, including the price cap. Check out Lutel's home page for instance. (click the "catalog" link, than click on "knives" or "daggers" or even swords) Several of these designs are much better for your purposes than half the suggestions you've gotten so far, and from all reports they offer good quality for the price. All Saints Blades has several daggers and even short swords made by the highly respected Mr. Angus Trim. Or check out the offerings from Del Tin, such as their Cinquedea . Do some searching.

Another idea, since you don't use dogs- how about a bayonet on the end of your gun?

Do people hunt wild boar with knives and no dogs. Just you, the knife, and one seriously pissed off wild boar with razor sharp teeth? Sounds crazy huh? :D Personally, if I was going wild boar hunting I'd use a .44mag handgun and stay close to a tree with low branches.

Oh yeah! Forgot one other suggestion - this was passed to me by some gentleman hog hunters - the mauser bayonet. You know that old bayonet you find at army suplus stores w/ the metal scabbard. Get one with the long blade and work on the edge till you get it razor sharp, then work the false edge - then don't use the knfie for nothing but that moment of truth when you gotta stab the hog. The steel's not that great, but the construction of the knife is all about stabbing and getting blood to flow - plus if anything, the blade will bend, not break - though I've never been able to break one with my bare hands.
