need your opinion between two watches *please*

I like the layout of the sub dials better on the Patriot. The chrono buttons on the Patriot also look easier to use. Both look like fine watches, though.

if it was me i'd get a marathon sub, they look better than either of those watches.

i bet more "operators" wear marathons vs them too lol.

I like the Patriot better, though it's close. FWIW, both are quartz and I would never pay that much money for a quartz watch. But the only thing that matters is that you like it.

I'd bet more "operators" wear G-shocks than anything else. :D

Hint: Anything that's boldly stamped, "SPEC OPS," probably isn't (the bolder the stamp, the less likely that it is). And wearing it will just brand you as a poser.

I find it somewhat incongruous that a watch which is supposedly a, "combat ready timepiece... designed with the punishment that members of the Special Forces are forced to endure both on land and at sea," comes packed in a water-proof, extra-padded road case.

Obviously, both are marketing hype.

I've vote for the Patriot. In my experience it is more bio-resistant for covert deanimation missions.

between the two i like the patriot.

I would look into Marathon watches. I have a traser and it is really good too.

The Marathon watches are around the same price and of way way higher quality.

FWIW.

A while ago, there was a discussion about MTM watches over in one of the watch forums where I spend most of my time these days. The tool-diver cognoscenti were discussing the relative merits of the MTM "mall ninja" offerings versus similar but more "acceptable" representatives such as Ocean, Schaumburg, or Enzo Mechana. But not one person had ever owned one or even handled one! Well - whether it's knives or watches - I don't like guessing or forming opinions based on website photographs so I ordered one on a bracelet (the Patriot).

I was a watch collector long before I became a knife collector and I still own all the "serious" divers.

Know what? The MTM is not a bad watch at all. Weighty and substantial case, fairly well made and finished. Much better than what I was expecting. The dial is a little busy, and the hex "nuts" in the bezel are just for show, and of course there's that small but dreaded "Spec-Op" logo ;). But all in all, not bad. I think you'll be happy with either watch.

(And if anyone wants to see one without having to buy one, I'll bring mine to BLADE in June! ;) )

possible, marathons are issued to some though.

i thought the staus symbols of 'operators' was a custom emerson and a SS rolex sub or GMT lol??

like cerikkson said the marathons are similar in price but lots lots higher quality, in our opinion anyway.

if i didnt wear a rolex GMT2 and was gonna spend under $1500 for a watch i'd be wearing a marathon sub, i honestly dont know of a better looking/better made watch for that kinda dollar than the marathon, i really like them and am gonna have to get one 'fore too long, just to wear when biking/working out/shooting/etc ..

maybe my girlfriend will get me one for my B-day i need to start working on that one lol.........

as mentioned above whichever one you like you should go with, however keep in mind you can get a couple of seiko divers for the same price and have a bulletproof time tested watch that has probably been on more "operators" wrists than the mtm offerings. just my .02

I'm willing to bet that the MTM watches haven't been on a wrist of any "operator" - except the ones in bars and dance clubs. ;)

We've had several threads/polls over at WUS on what watches the real operators wear and the results were overwhelming: a G-Shock or a Timex Ironman. And an occasional Omega, Rolex, or Marathon - but those were rare.

Remember, I bought that MTM as a "test" to see what they were really like - instead of guessing from the photos on the website like most people with opinions on that watch were doing (like here ;) ) ("I really hate Sebenzas, but I've never owned or held one!" ;););) )

Unless you want that black "tactical" look, you'd be better off with a Marathon (I own several - not a lot of choice but great value, tough as nails!) or a Seiko (even better value and greater choice).

For $450 you can find a better watch. Forget the extra chrono functions. All you need is a second hand unless you are a pilot. You can get a Luminox for half the price. A Seiko self winder diver is a better, sturdier watch at half the price. I agree with the other posters that anything labeled special ops, commando, seal, delta force, etc. are all advertising gimics to get you to buy a average watch at twice the price.

Thanks for the replies guy's! after reading some things, I am having second thoughts about MTM. I have come to conclusion thanks to you guys I don't need the Chrono. function, so if I were to still go with MTM, it would be the black warrior. It is the best I can see that fits me!

If you have a need to wear the same watch that a real man wears, get yourself a Citizen Ecozilla...That's what I wear.....No girly, bling-bling watches for me...Just something solid that works.

You could get a Luminox AND a G-Shock for that kind of money. Luminox has tritium hands/markers and a Swiss movement, and the timing features of the G-Shock are probably better.

Or a Marathon SAR or TSAR. Personally I'm a big Marathon fan, but YMMV.

Remember though, that Jack Bauer wears MTM! And Jack Bauer's judgment is worth more than that of the entire US military combined! (Season 2, won't spoil the plot for anyone who hasn't seen it). And we all know that anyone who is a real operator has to be like Jack Bauer! ;)

Zero

he wears a rolex submariner in most of the episodes IIRC, i dont know if i'd purchase a ~$500 watch just 'cuz jack wears one anyway lol.

a bud of mine had a luminox and he wasnt very happy with it, it just didnt last very long for what he paid for it, had some probs, i dont remember now WTF the deal was, he is the one who has the marathon though.

How about this one? ;)

You guys all know what "manly" products Oakley produces! Not a "Spec-Op" logo anywhere!!!!
