Need your Opinions Please..No Pic's!!

Belt Buckels would be cool also..
If I just had more of me to do all the stuff and then some extra cash around to market the stuff I would be in great shape..
What kind of buckelare we talking here a western style  or one of those loop with a center pin like on a dress belt:eek:

Sale ability has a lot to do with the NAME. Nobody wanted to eat at Edward T. Coli's resturant when he named it the E. Coli Cafe.:barf:

Good choice Bruce:D

FRONTIER DAMASCUS - Tougher than a Junkyard Dog!

I have a friend who makes spurs and is way way backed up on them. The Single Action Shooting Society folks buy high priced spurs as fast as they can find them. Should be a good market Bruce.

Hey Bruce E
When we lived in Co.(Denver) I was
interduce to a man who made spurs.
He would make them all year then come to
Denver for the Live Stock&Rodeo Show
thats a big deal out there.
Anyway he would make about 100-125
pairs & sale every pair. If I
remember right it was $300.00 a pair.
Did you know that there was a spur making
class at one time

Yes I have heard of a school that taught spurs and bit making. In fact if i remember correctly Mr.Jim Batson got his start in forging by learning how to make bits and spurs....Heck Half the time I don't have enough time to make knives let alone start making allot of spurs or something like that.I would just like to know how to do them and make a few pairs and see what happened.Heck if they sale at that kind of price maybe I should try a few pairs and see:D :D
I wonder if the economy is hurting the cowboys as well as the rest of us,becuse arent the fancy spurs a luxury and not a have to have for them.?

The horse industry is still doing pretty well. I just finished up the Quarter Horse Congress a couple weeks back. Its the biggest single breed horse show in the world and is held in Columbus at the Ohio State Fair grounds every year. Sales were a little slower according to some of the people in the trade show. But one of the guys I know who owns a tack shop said business was good for them. There were about 8,500 horse entered all together and it was supposed to have generated well over $100 million for the Columbus economy. Folks were definitely still spending money. When it comes to stuff like spurs, you really do need a pair to be competitive. And If your going to spend $50-$100 to get a pair that will last, alot of people will spend extra to get something special.

Bruce it`s my understanding that
the cowboys that follows the rodeo
sends big $$ on spurs. What I was told
is they brake the spurs at the neck?
all the time from the main body.
I guess cowboys are hard on them.
I my be wrong it been a spell. (I`m old)
We were in Denver around 91to94:confused:

i agree with jerry that the cowboy shooter crown is good money. the gun store that i sell my blades at on friday's and saturday has a bunch of cowboy stuff. shirts, hat's, gun leather, and of course guns. the spur idea sound's good, he sells those too. with your bowie and price type blade's this is a market you would do well with. yes every thing has slowed a little bruce. but this is mostly a bucks up crowd.

Its the old retired cowboys that have the ranch paid off that spend the real money. Most rodeo cowboys buy a good tough set of carbon steel spurs and use the heck out of em. The damascus sets you sell will more than likely not even get used because they cost over $1000 per set. Im talking very nice with sterling inlays and professional engraving and Severe Brothers hand tooled leather straps. You need to think "high end" Can you imagine having a matching bowie knife? Did I say "High End"? A set like this should go for $2500+ I think it would be a bargain for a gift from his wife.

OK You guys have me convinced,I will check them out and see what i can do,I have seen some of the cheaper sets that are welded together,I bet i can forge out a set that won't break that easy,I just have to get a shape and size to go by and I will see what i can come up with..Sounds like another cool project....
Does anybody have a full size picture that they can scan up and send me so I know how wide and thick and the shape of the whole spur..
Thanks everybody.
Bruce:)

I good place to ask around for that knida stuff might be Centaur Forge. Since they deal so much with blacksmithing stuff they might have some kind of manual on spurs or something.

Yep they have em. I saw two videos that talk about making spurs. They were a set of two videos. They might have had a couple others or even a couple of books but I didnt see them. Hope this helps.
