OK,
I Love to take old worn out slip joints apart and refresh em.
I been using an old fixed blade piece crap to slice the pins....Anyone reccomend
something better, and will last longer?...Something that won't damage the liners, etc?

Also, anyone have an idea for a blade tension device(slackner)as some call it?...
I have been using a double edged razor blade, but they are dangerous, and don't last
very long either.....

Pictures would be nice.....Ideas,pictures of items used,etc?...

If this needs to be moved,go right ahead....I have no problem with that...

Thanks everyone for the BEST Forum on the net......

Off we go to Shoptalk, the Custom & Handmade is not the right place to ask how to questions or step by step guides.

Slicing pins is not usually the best way to remove them. Removing the peened pin heads and driving them out is preferable.
Thin shim stock is available that would make a nice slackener-though I have never needed one.

thanks for reply bill....the knife i talking about doesn't have a head to remove?
it's just flat across and smooth....so i just find the pin,and knock it out with a
punch maybe?...i guess im trying to say, won't it damage the bolster to try grind head
off pin?....i can find pin, just punch it thru?....
i've also put some together that were fine, but i have had them too tight...

can you send me an email?
i'll reply tomorrow......

thank you sir,jd

Bill is right on the disassembly drive the pin out. A tool like this can work wonders to get the pin to sink
in the bolster. Never seen one for sale, this ones 440c at spring temper. Ken.

Ken,how does that thing work?....Where would I find something like that, and what's it called?..
Appoligize for so many questions,I just don't know....
Thank you everyone for being so helpful,

The tool works by putting the "fingers" into the blade slot turning the allen screw and separating the the knife, or at least pulling
it apart enough to be able to see and drive out a pin. The tool works great for when you get one too tight. Where to get one? I don't
have a clue I believe I copied this one off T. Bose's website.
Ken.

i'd sure love to find one.....no clue as to name?....great idea,i may try to figure out something similar
with what i have lying around......thanks for the picture, and ideas.....

I use a miniature pry bar. You can also make tapered pieces of metal to tap into the blade well.
Often, you can simply flex a blade and show the pivot.

A drop of ferric chloride will reveal the pin. Center punch it with a prick punch and use a spotting drill to start a hole in the pin then drill it deep enough to use a punch in the hole to knock the pin out.
