I put some jade g-11 scales on the needs work, and renamed it, "Needed Work"!! It wasnt too difficult, little bit of milling for spring, and scale thickness. Those "dragon scales" it came with just didnt do the design justice for me.. whach ya think?

Good job:thumbup:

The handle scales it comes with are just awful. Big improvement.

BTW did you switch the clip to tip up carry?

I bought an 1820G10 Needs Work when I found one a few years back. That was a short run - great knife. An upgraded blade steel and the G10 would be great.

Good work, GTH11!

Very nice!
Now give it tip up carry.
I have a one of the limited stonewashed G10 ones from a few years ago. Love the knife hate tip down only. Tip up would make it carry much smaller and leave more space to get your hand in your pocket.

Hi all thanks for the replies... tip up it is!! Ill post an update and i think ill do my own custom clip w/ some blued Ti!!

Wow...what a Beauty! I would buy this. Always a fan of the Nw and this makes the knife that much nicer.

I dont have the capabilities to produce, i will do one off projects like this needed work, and id do it again, i have some old kershaw lockbacks im gonna be putting some stone on. Theres a junkyard on my website that i milled the existing scales. Ive been a fan of Ken Onion since the 90s, and now that Tim Galyean is in r/d at Kershaw, my local pride has grown more!! Check my web site at ghaileknives.com
Thanks for the all the kind words and interest!!!!! GHaile

Hey G,
Great looking scales on that needs work.
I'm really interested in how radiused the edges of the handle slabs. You said you milled them. They look great! Do you use a manual mill or a CNC? If using a manual mill, what type of bit did you use to get the edges finished like that?

Really nice job on that!

Okay, I don't hand out compliments freely, but that's really nice. Will you sell it to me for the price of a stock Needs Work? :D

Hi all first thanks for the compliments!! I started out with 1/2" slab of g-11, i think i miss typed about the radius being milled i used variuos sanders to bring down scale thickness... edges i did by hand jmac the milling i did was for the spring relief in the scale and how it travels around the pivot screw, i used my drill press with an tiny end mill and a little jig that alows me to slide it around and remove material..raise base remove more..carefull..lol, my mentor has a sweet little table top grizzly mill that imo is priced right and built well!! Did you decide on a mill yet jmac? buddy picked up a monster stand up green jet MILL, 450 bucks at auction! P.S. i did some "custom" engraving/filing on the top of liners and pivot pin, anyhow thanks again for the interest!! Your funny JNieporte. GHaile

The contours you sanded look amazing with that jade composite and the Needs Work's blade shape.

How deep into the scale is the relief cutout you made? I ask because I'm wondering how thin the scales could be in practice after accounting for the relief cutout you milled in.

Mine needed work too. Just changed the clip to tip up and a ZT clip. I have always loved my G10 Stonewashed but now it is better. Up next is my Composite JYD. I am thinking that a Zt clip will work nice there also.

A $3 tap and a $3 bit have made my day! And no the liner wasn't that hard to drill at all.
