Hey guys I have a leatherman wave which was a present from my ex girlfriend and she had got it engraved and I love it I carry it every day in combination with another folding knife and I was wondering what would be the best way to deal with the engraving. It is the wave plus with the black finish

You can easily buy a replacement and toss the one with the engraving in the nearest river or volcano. Or maybe contact Leatherman and ask them to replace the engraved part.

If I had a silver leatherman I would but since I have a black one I dont want to have a silver strip across it where the engraving was

There will be a point in your life that the engraving is not a big deal. In the meantime, take a black marker to it. It won't last but at least you don't have it acting like a neon sign.

Is there any way to have leatherman refinish the item?

If you still plan on not hurting yourself, leave it..it doesnt say Creasy512 loves Abigail.i could understand wanting to get rid of that. So you are good. If you really hate it, I guess you could look at having it duracoated, but that may cost more than just buying a new one.

Tape it up and hit with a little black spray paint with a similar finish as the rest of the tool? Probably would last a bit longer than a marker. Much more than that and I would probably just live with it or look for a new one.

If a black-finished area was engraved so that the engraving shows up as a silver kind of color, I think your only option will be the black marker pen idea above. Get one of those permanent, laundry-quality black marker pens and give it a try. You may have to re-do it periodically, but I think it’s your only hope. Good luck.

It's a leatherman, not a tattoo. If you dislike the engraving so much you can get out a dremel or sandpaper, you can paint it, you can superglue/epoxy wood, leather or carbon onto the sides for "scales" or you can just ignore the engraving and accept she gave you a tool you still like and the relationship simply ended.

You could always take a small rounded punch and give the area a texture with a smooth decorative hammer finish. That would burnish out the engraving.

I'd get it fixed if it was a tattoo . It might get in the way of your social life .;)

On a knife / multitool , I'd deal by making peace with the past . Nobody else has to see it or would even notice . :)
