Hello, I am new to the forum. I have become very interested in Becker Knives and cannot make up my mind on which Becker BK to purchase. My biggest issue is I live in Utah and cannot find a store which sells a full line of Beckers. I've narrowed my choices to the, BK2, BK7 or BK10, The BK2 seems strong and popular, BK7 seems awesome as well and the BK10 seems like a mix between the three. Any valid suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Here's my personal opinion.

I find the BK2 too thick and heavy for its size. I don't like knives in the 6 to 7 inch blade length range because they feel too big for detailed tasks and are still a bit small for larger jobs (I'll carry a 4-5" knife, or go all the way to 9" and up), so the BK7 would not be my choice, either. The BK10 is a nice all around knife, so I'd pick that one.

Take a look at the BK16 and BK17. They are great designs, with blades a little over 4" and they aren't as broad as the regular Beckers.

I'm in the same situation as you, OP. I've been interested in one for years and I've decided that the next knife I get will be one of these. I spent an hour last night researching models and watching interviews with Becker and I really do think that the BK10 is the perfect knife. It's big enough for a lot of larger tasks but thin enough to not be unwieldy. The thumb ramp is great, and coupled with the clip point which drops the chord of the blade compared to the BK2's drop point, this knife would also do great in stabbing use.

I have a BK-2 and BK-7. Had I known about the BK-10 when I bought the BK-2, that is the one I would have chosen. Why? The BK-2 is 0.25" bar steel and is heavy. The BK-10 is like the BK-7 and BK-9 with bar steel that is 0.188" thick. So unless you can figure out a reason for the heavier steel with your use, I would get the BK-10. The BK-2 is not a good chopper, but I suppose one could muddle through it on smaller tasks. The BK-7 feels like a big knife and is, but it is not a BK-9. I like it, and carry it for woods bumming if I feel like a larger blade. I generally prefer the feel and lightness of the BK-16 for bumming or carry my regular fixed blade EDC which is a Dozier Personal and a SAK. Been experimenting with a BK-14/BK-24 also.

I think you're generally better off getting a short machete as a chopper. I like and use the Condor Pack Golok and Village Parang. Both great choppers for trees and so forth. Not so good for flexible vegatation where a thinner longer machete is better.

Where in Utah are you? Blade HQ is in Lehi and they carry Beckers, you might want to give them a call.

Between the knives you listed, I would go with the BK10 hands down. It really is a terrific knife. As people have pointed out, the BK2 is a brute of a knife at 1/4" thick, but the BK10 is still plenty strong and more nimble/lighter (stronger than most knives its size). The 10 is one of my favorite Beckers to be honest, and it is very versatile (it's a pilot's survival knife! how cool is that?). The BK7 is really a combat-survival knife that is designed for fighting just as much as it is for survival.

I've been EDC'ing a BK2 since Christmas. It has never let me down and has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it with ease. If you want a knife that can do everything and more... get a 2!

I'm closer to Lehi, I will find them, if I can get something in hand I think that will help me decide for sure.

The bk4 is an awesome blade.... It can do big jobs and small jobs ... You might want to consider it as well as it does everything well and when you take it out of the sheath your friends will all say wtf is that thing.

Of those the 10 is the handiest. The 2 and 7 are nice to have but the 10 is my choice. But you should really get a BK9 first. You can't not have a 9.

You NEED a 9...because the 9 is KING...and it will make you never look at your other knives the same way...because...

There are so many reasons that you can't not have not no 9!

The 10 is my pick too.
Its the smallest of the big Beckers while still quite a bit bigger than the medium sized ones.

Of the full-size, non-tweeners Beckers, I'd recommend the 10 or 9.

That being said, I'm taking it upon myself to be the Bk15 ambassador as it's become my favorite Becker over the last month or so of use.

Of the choices you mentioned, I would pick the BK-10.

But, If you haven't checked out the BK-12, I suggest you do so. I love that knife. I prefer it over the BK-7 any day.

And it sure wouldn't hurt to have a BK-11 and a BK-16. Just saying. haha

I have all three and latelty the BK2 has been feeling too heavy for me. That's why I always grab my 10 instead. Just personal prefrence. Never felt as if it was too short so my 7 doesn't get much use. My advice is a 10

I have the BK2 and its a beast of a knife that can do pretty much ANYTHING.

That said, if I was stating fresh, BB (before Beckers), I would probably have a hard time deciding between the 2 and the 10.

Here's what it boiles down to:

if you want a knife that also offers defensive qualities as well as being the lighter of the two, the BK10 wins.

If you want a bomb proof blade that splits wood VERY well, while doing everything else pretty well id go with the BK2, but the downside is it is a little heavier.

If I did it all over again, I'd still go BK2 but its a pretty even match between the two.

Pick your poison, you can't go wrong with either.

Big dilemma!

I bought my first beckerS recently... I went for a BK9 ... + a BK11 and I'm really happy of my choiceS. Mr. Becker wrote it down somewhere : '' A BK9 paired with a BK11, you can do everything you want in the wood''. He was right.

No need of an axe for building a shelter, you got a BK9 and if you want to skin or do more precise work, you got a BK11 wrapped around paracord. Plus, it fits in the BK9 sheath.

Here's a pic of the BK-10 with a few mods and a pic of the BK-12.

9 would probably be my first if I were to do it all again. Or an RBK, if you can find one. My other favorites are the 10, tweeners, 5 for cooking stuff, and one of the neckers. The 7, to me, is just a compromise that doesn't need to happen--it's basically the knife that falls between the 10 and the 9.

I chose the BK2. I am happy with my decision. I didnt think about the decision too much. I went with the one that I had known of the longest.
