Needlenose Gar though similar to Alligator Gar, it differs greatly by the shape of the smooth vs rough scales and the size of each individual scale. This material lends itself perfectly for folders and smaller blades. The fish hide is removed from the animal, cleaned and tanned. After its tanned it is then dried flat and stabilized before adhering to the G10. The individual scales which give the material a very grippy texture are each pieces of extremely hard bone which polishes up very well and stands up to abuse surprisingly well.
