Needlessly alarmist ninny at the Washington Post

Why assume he 'suddenly felt a need to arm himself'? Her words were 'a hunting knife'... How does that translate to ' a big freakin monster Bowie'?. . .

It doesn't. It translates into "hunting knife."

I think the chikki has zero concept of what a hunting knife is. Fear makes things seem so much bigger a scarier than it reallt may be. . .

How hard is a hunting knife to identify? Don't assume the person is stupid.

The knife may have been a gift which he just received . . .

I don't see how it matters where he got it. Carrying a large knife openly in an office is almost always inapropriate. It's the strange behavior coupled with the knife that is the problem. Either one by itself is a non-issue.

Any follow up stories about knife crazed nutsos cutting up an office....? More likely he is being asked to open packages and peel apples....

It could be that this guys works in a warehouse and opens packages all day. We don't know. See my posts above. There is no shortage of workplace violence. Without having checked statistics, my impression is that it has gotten worse in recent years.

Why do you toss the 'liberal' word about so freely as if it had anything to do with ninnyism? I consider myself to rather liberal. I have the same problems with all the Nerfworlder conservatives I am around every day who are of EXACTLY the same scaredy mindset of the aforementioned 'ninny'.

Fair enough. In my neck of the woods (rural WA) 'liberal' and 'ninny' are one and the same -- we are a state run by liberal ninny city-dwellers who have great contempt for anything rural. But not all ninnies are liberals, and vice versa. Just like many conservatives have no common sense. Point taken.

It's all good...except, yes, I think a person who would pose such a concern to an advice column is stupid. There are other avenues. Ask the owner of the company what he thinks about it. Hell, ask the guy in question! But an advice column....? Eeeeho! Think for your bleedin' self! Emphasis on 'Think'.
