New to this fourm and was wanting to get some feedback on the needs work. I own 3 kershaw. myEDC is a boa. The needs work blade is 13c26 I love 12c27 steel so I was wondering how it compared. It appears that it is carried tip down A+ but can the clip be reversed your leftys. any help is appreciated

The pocket clip on the Needs Work is right-hand tip-down only, sorry. It's a very nice knife though, especially at the $30 price tag. I've used mine at work for a while and I still like the weird-looking thing. Many co-workers have bought them from me.

Welcome to the Forums

I'll endup getting one after i posted i found some threads with some good feed back. Does anyone know the grind. I looks like a flat grind with a secondary bevel.

Flat ground, very slight secondary bevel. Really nice slicer

I just bought one from the Snap On guy and the only thing I don't like about it is the clip setup. I prefer to have the blade side facing towards the seam of my pocket, so following that criteria it seems made for leftys and I actually thought for a moment that I might have gotten some left hand variant. The way it's set up now in my right pocket makes me worry there will be an Emerson Wave type opening with the Speedsafe against my pocket. I'd like to see clip holes on both scales or a safety at least. All examples I handled (about a dozen with dates spanning '07 to '08) had side to side blade play too but I haven't tried to tighten the pivot; that might lessen the play or eliminate it. Other than that, nice knife at a good price. Also, Snap On seems to have it in 4 scale colors (black, brown, red, and what they call gray which is more like an olive drab) which is interesting. All I seem to be able to find online is the black handle.

Also, the ergonomics are nice. I wear a size large glove and it fits really nicely in my hand. My finger tips seem to line up with the circles in the scales. If you have an XL hand it might be more of a three finger knife but should still retain good ergos. It is a little bit of a pocket hog but that'll be reduced if you're a lefty due to the design.

The Needs Work is one of my favorite Kershaw knives. The ergos are great even with my huge hands. The 13c26 is a really good steel so far as it is fairly corrosion resistant and also takes a wicked edge with a relatively small amount of work. I hope the new steel is as good all around as 13c26 is.

Josh, don't do me bodily harm for disagreeing, but isnt it a wickedly long hollow grind?

I love the Needs Work. The handle has zero hotspots, thin wicked sharp blade. The straight edge is super easy to sharpen, it has a nice "utility tip" like a normal single edge razor blade packing knife. It handles the stresses of hard use, but at the same time, it sharpens up without alot of effort. I look at it like a very easy to use and REUSE "Stanley" utility knife.

The only beef I have is the slight rearward blade cant, and the tip down only option. I overcame both of those based on real world use of this knife.

Its 90% perfect, which coming from me, is a very good rating.

The Boa is da bomb! What steel ya got...S30V, S60V? I spent a little time with mine and some soft backed 10,000 grit (yeah, I can get it). "De-burred" the entire knife, just like you would find in a custom 1911. Made all the difference in the world. A joy to carry!

It could be, but I'm pretty sure it's a flat grind. I'll have to check mine again. If you're right, I'll buy you a beer or some Jagermeister :D

Meetings? I don't recall scheduling or authorizing any meetings.

Luca, are you aware of these meetings?

:D

my boa is s30v I had one crm440v which i believe is close to the same. I have never been able to get it as sharp as I figure it should get. Even though I get as sharp as i want it. I carry a smaller pocketknife that i keep almost hair poppin.

Luca, are you aware of these meetings?

Until we have an agreement, our meetings are none of your concern

Luca's been too busy chasing vibrational media to track our transactions lately. Dont expect a return on investment old man. :)

Since when did Needs Work have flat grinds? I've had 3 in my possession at one point or another, and all were hollow saber ground.

I liked the knife, but didn't care for the tip down only clip. I'm also not going to carry a knife that's as bulky as the Needs Work if it's only a 3 finger grip. That was the deal breaker for me, I couldn't come close to fitting four fingers on the knife. Love the blade shape and how thin the grind gets behind the edge bevel.

Vivi, how come all of your "feedback" comes off as offensive. Are you young or just unwise?

Who cares if they weren't flat grinds? Have some taste, and mention it gently, dont flap at the mouth.

I said the grinds weren't flat already, maybe you were hip to jump on someone else's mistake before reading the remainder of the thread to point out another's flaw. Seems to be your style.

Example: So you have fat man hands, you cant get a full grip on the knife. Does that mean it wont work for a skinny guy? [end example]

See the reality is, I have big thick hands too, and the knife is a "small fit" for me as well, but I dont take my abnormal size and project it as a design flaw.

I dont care for the tip down only carry either. You wouldve read that too had you read the entire thread without jumping the gun.

Excellent. The old "vibrational media" ploy works again! Pay no attention to that UPS drop box that "seems" to be everywhere you are!
