Needs Work

Vivi, how come all of your "feedback" comes off as offensive. Are you young or just unwise?

I can't control how others interpret what I say. Maybe my wording wasn't the best but offense was not my intent. Regardless, yes, I am about one third the age of many regulars here, so I am not as wise as others are in certain areas.

I said the grinds weren't flat already, maybe you were hip to jump on someone else's mistake before reading the remainder of the thread to point out another's flaw. Seems to be your style.

What's your deal? All I said was they had hollow grinds, I didn't ask for a psychological analysis from someone who's judging my social mentality through bladeforums posts.

Example: So you have fat man hands, you cant get a full grip on the knife. Does that mean it wont work for a skinny guy? [end example]

See the reality is, I have big thick hands too, and the knife is a "small fit" for me as well, but I dont take my abnormal size and project it as a design flaw.

Am I not allowed to relate my personal experience without blaming any way the knife does not work for me as a design flaw of God's in proportioning my body? I'm sorry, but your requests are too ridiculous for me to consider seriously. FYI my fingers are slim. Also, I own many smaller folders that offer a 4 finger grip, so I do perceive it as a design flaw for me.

I dont care for the tip down only carry either. You wouldve read that too had you read the entire thread without jumping the gun.

Great, you gave an opinion, I did too. Because mine is the same as yours, I can't post it? Why do you think anything you've said others aren't allowed to repeat? The OP came in here and asked for feedback on a knife, I gave it, and on one post that did exactly what the OP ask you seem ready to start some anti Vivi crusade? Hell, I even said it was a good knife, it just didn't work for me and I explained why, which I consider more informative than simply saying it doesn't do it for me.

Seriously, did I piss you off recently or something?

I had a Needs Work and liked it, especially the offset blade configuration, but the handle was a little too short for my XL hands. I couldn't get the best grip on it and the Speed Safe opener brought the blade out so hard I kept thinking I was going to drop it one day if I didn't pay attention.

So I sold it.

Since when did Needs Work have flat grinds?

How about you just say:

I've had 3 in my possession at one point or another, and all were hollow saber ground.

The following doesn't relate your personal situation, just a condemnation of the design:

I'm also not going to carry a knife that's as bulky as the Needs Work if it's only a 3 finger grip. That was the deal breaker for me, I couldn't come close to fitting four fingers on the knife.

Got big hands? Care to mention that?

I can't control how others interpret what I say.

Nope, but you can temper your responses to be a bit more respected and non-abrasive.

Seriously, did I piss you off recently or something?

Nope, I just see a trend. I don't dislike you at all...I just wish you would find a bit more tact and respect for those who you disagree with.

I thought one could infer from my post that I have large hands. I also have specific measurements of my hand posted on my webite should anyone care to see them.

I'm still convinced my original post contained nothing so offensive it couldn't be ignored. Regardless, I said my part about the knife, so I'll leave the thread.

Yeah, the blade smacks out of there with authority. Much harder than any other AO I have, SpeedSafe or otherwise. I kind of like that though. I don't get the feeling it's going to fly out of my hand but it feels like it might be able to break a beer bottle on it's way out. I haven't tried that but the thwack puts a grin on my face every time.

The Needs Work is a great knife for the money. The only things I would change, IMHO, are to increase the handle size, and the material of which the handle is made.

Screw-cap wine hater!

:D

Yeah!! What DV said!! ;)
I just got four mason jars of the best Blackberry wine you'll
ever come across.

Oh, and I love my Needs Work. Great ergo's, great blade shape and the 13C26
is an excellent steel. I do agree the clip could use a little work. But for $30, it's
a fantastic knife that begs to be used.

Well everybody's said it already, but I will add my .02 any way.

I love my Needs Work !!
It goes to work with me every day it's sharp, easy to sharpen or touch up and It opens with a crisp snap and fits my medium large size hand very well. It handles very well and I like the grip, (scales) feels good in my hand.

Oh, and the clip works fine for me just, tilt the knife about 30 degrees and it slips right in your pocket.

It would be awesome if it came in S30V though. ;);)

The only things I don't like is it's some what more difficult to release the liner lock due to the radius of the choil. I don't care nothing about taking the knife apart but the screws on my particular model looked buggered up to me. Other wise it's a nice knife especially for the $!

The Needs Work is turning into one of my favorite Kershaws. It's very pocket-able, comfortable and I can fit almost all my fat sausage fingers onto the handle. I think of it as a small knife so a little pinkie dangle is OK. Besides the Shallot I don't own any tip up Kershaws so I'm good with TD as the speed safe does offer a bunch of resistance to opening. The pocket clip holds the knife......to the pocket, it releases with a snap so I don't think it's getting lost anytime soon. Long story made longer, it'll be in my pocket for a while, l love Onion's designs, make more in more scale colors. I'd buy em in all colors!
Cheers,
Rob

Also, Snap On seems to have it in 4 scale colors (black, brown, red, and what they call gray which is more like an olive drab) which is interesting. All I seem to be able to find online is the black handle.

I have been looking for the Snap-On Needs works in the different colored handles - can you tell me how much Snap-On was asking for them? They are impossible to find online.

The name is at the tip of my tongue - what model kershaw is the 3rd one down from the top..?

I just bought one from the Snap On guy and the only thing I don't like about it is the clip setup. I prefer to have the blade side facing towards the seam of my pocket, so following that criteria it seems made for leftys and I actually thought for a moment that I might have gotten some left hand variant. The way it's set up now in my right pocket makes me worry there will be an Emerson Wave type opening with the Speedsafe against my pocket. I'd like to see clip holes on both scales or a safety at least. All examples I handled (about a dozen with dates spanning '07 to '08) had side to side blade play too but I haven't tried to tighten the pivot; that might lessen the play or eliminate it. Other than that, nice knife at a good price. Also, Snap On seems to have it in 4 scale colors (black, brown, red, and what they call gray which is more like an olive drab) which is interesting.
