Hey man, your welcome. I dont think i have listened to anything not by bon iver intentionally since i first saw this video. They are amazing. definitely deserves the grammys they won. their music just puts me in such a broad spectrum of moods, its amazing. sometimes wishful, sometimes resentful. You should also listen to skinny love and blood bank by them. or just do what im doing, and listen to everything by them. ;p

Do you have to contact him via Facebook for more info or does he have a site?

I'm not sure what is more impressive, the craftsmanship in the axe or the video. Looks like his site is under construction, but I would get one of these - nice piece to pass down the line for generations.

Gorgeous video. I know that the two fellows of the project are relatively new members here and they have voiced intentions on getting maker memberships at some point in the near future. I hope they do, as it would be nice to hear more from them about their work.

Hello There.

At first I wish to tell the administrators that i just few minutes ago bought a knife maker membership to that forum. So I do not want to look like a spammer here. Second - thanks for enjoying our work. Our web site is under construction. I hope we will open it in a month. It will be possible to order our tools direct from our web site. So far we have a facebook page: facebook.com/neemantools. (Can I post a link here?)

Info about us:

We are a small crew of craftsmen in the Northern Europe, Latvia (Baltic states) with a will to keep our traditions and crafts alive. We are making traditional woodworking tools based on our heritage of craftsmanship in many generations and are focusing on handcraft in a hi-tech age.

Our company is founded by two craftsmen. Skilled blacksmith John Neeman and his friend carpenter Jacob, who’s passion is traditional woodworking and bladesmithing.

We use our hands to create hand tools that will live and tell their story lying in hands of craftsmen that will use them.

Our aim is to give personality for the tool (as it was in the old days), to put care and love in it, so the craftsmen who will use it in his daily work would feel that positive energy that is enclosed to the tool.

We are not a huge factory, all the tools are being made in an ancient workshop mostly using traditional methods and techniques. We are focusing on uniqueness and quality, not quantity.

Our traditions of blacksmithing and woodworking walk step by step together. We are uniting our history, traditions and craftsmaniship in one ancient craft. Tool making.

Here my axes from John and Jacob

Great to see you here, man! Congrats on the membership--it'll pay for itself in no time.

As mentioned previously, great video and great work!

I finally found the right place. I too have just discovered these videos and for 2 days i have shown everyone I could corner but no one else seemed to get it. I wish these videos lasted hours instead of minutes, i'm still blown away. A slick and a 1.5" framing chisel is on the short list but I will have to wait for the web site as I do not do facebook. Nice work John, I think you are about to get all the recognition you deserve. Talk to ya soon.

Well, those videos are brilliant. So well done that it makes me wonder if the process shown is how the axes are made. Clearly the videos are professionally done, nothing wrong with that, but it is just something that seems inconsistent with a small operation. That said, I still loved the videos.

Turbo, you have a few of Neeman's axes, would you or others with first hand experience care to comment on your experience with them?

I tried in only a carpenter, German and Finnish I was taking to the collection.
A carpenter's ax, I would classify as a large carpenter, his head is bigger and heavier than traditional carpenters.
Very good balance for precise operation and very high quality assembly.

I figure that there's likely a little artistic license with the process, as the main goal of the video is to instill a sense of the quality that they strive for and the old-world craft they attempt to preserve. I have no doubt that the true process is very similar to the one shown though. A few things were obviously cut out (it would have been a very long and boring video otherwise) and some of the stages may not be done with every axe. Most of it looked pretty spot on for what one would have to expect from a sole maker.

Good news to me as far as the weight of the carpenter goes. I like a straight edge, but regular carpenters are on the light side for heavy general use.

Great videos- I've seen some of you posts on other boards, very nice tools. The laser etch on the handle is a nice "old school" touch lol.
Welcome to the forum

That has got to be the best damn videos I ve ever seen! My 6 and 4 year old boys watched it with me and didnt say a word!!!!
