I've had ordered and paid a custom service provider, delaying numerous times & now MIA on me in the past 3 months, I hate to be forced into this position as well as do this, but i have been left with no choice & need some advice from you guys what are my options?:grumpy:

this post is not to whine, I need suggestions & advice of what actions should I take from here.

First, post in the FEEDBACK forum with questions or complaints or praise for deals or dealers. (Moved it here.)

Next, custom work can be frustrating. The maker doesn't stamp them out like production knives, he may be doing this as a second job, subject to interference by other life concerns. Unfortunately also, many makers are better craftsmen than businessmen.

Communications is the key to satisfaction in these cases. How often have you tried to contact him and how -- email, phone, kicking his shop door in? When was his last reply and what did he say?

Ultimately, you may want to post the details of the deal: what you asked him to make, when he promised it by, what you paid him. And who he is. Once you post his name, send him a link to this thread.

yes I definitely have to agree on the no specific timeline. & I have ordered customs before so I'm no stranger of waiting. I agree communication is the key but I feel the maker lack such/avoid my emails.

I ordered some custom scales for my XM-18 scales from the maker on 26/27th Apr (keep in mind he have been replying my emails AT LEAST daily before I've made the payment). He gave me an estimate time of "less than a month" back in Apr 28, 2011. I have heard no updates on my schedule so I emailed wanting an update for my scales on 15 May, & he stated 1 scale is "about done" and the other scale is "cut out". With the impression the scales seems ready soon, I asked for information about an additional scale. He said he will look into it. I asked him for samples & hear no response from him. On 22 Jun I asked the progress of my order and he replied he is moving 1400miles away and "The scales are almost finished I expect them to go out by the first week of July." On the 9th I still have no emails from the guy so I emailed him asking for my shipment. 16th he replied stating "We've had some computer issues here and lost our address/contact excel file. Please send me back an email with your contact info. and I'll try to expedite the scales as fast as I can.", I re-sent him my shipping info, ordering items the same day & no replies. 2 attempts trying to locate the maker via emails one on 24th Jul & the other 6th Aug.

Final email I get from him "I'm sorry for the late response, I've had some technical issues on my end. I will make sure you're taken care of." on 6th Aug, 2011. I am not satisfy with the situation and explained the order was long overdue without any plans of when it will be ready. I gave him the option of either shipping the order out & providing me a tracking so I have a clear idea when I can expect the item OR providing me a refund of what I've paid if he is not willing to ship my order out and have not received replies from the maker.

You have been patient long enough. I would post the maker's info; no guarantee that will get you your refund/scales, but at least he will be the focus of some public scrutiny. If you paid via a method that allows for investigation, you might consider that route as well.

I really don't like to do this, would you guys think its appropriate if I send a final email to the maker requesting my order or I have no choice but to bring it for online community to decide on his practices?

Send him that final email with the link to this thread.

"I have done numerous attempts to contact you/locate my order. I am left with no choice but to seek advice from internet communities like this.
I seek you to honor your commitment or at least give reasonable timeline & response to my communications. I will allow 4 days from today (now - Sunday 20th Aug, 2011) for contacting me & make reasonable arrangements."

They're complete but it could take a week to mail them?

Why do I have the feeling that really means "I'm sending this so you won't name me in public and buying myself a week to make the scales since I haven't done them yet." Of course, if he could send you a currently dated picture showing scales that were exactly what you ordered that would soothe such concern.

Hope it works out for you but I would give him no more rope than this. I'm guessing you will have done this already, but insist upon tracking and insurance for the shipment, at his expense, and that those label numbers be sent to you ASAP after it's in the mail.

thanks, I agree.

Its just very frustrating having to deal with this. I also have the feeling I have no choice but to let the community deal with the situation.

Jeff Karg, Jeff Carte, what ever is a liar & a thief. plain & simple. he's had my Spyderco Titanium Military & Emerson Mini A100 for 4 months! & every time i contact him he gives me some B.S. excuse as to why they haven't been mailed yet. according to the text messages he's sent me the knives have been done since June! & every time he says they'll be mailed out soon. NO ONE DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CROOK! HE WILL TAKE YOUR KNIVES & YOUR MONEY WITH NO INTENT ON RETURNING THEM!

It is right to name him. I am surprised he has not been in a auto accident or his mother passed away, etc. I am willing to bet there are a few others that will now post about how he gave them all kinds of excuses and issues. Wonder why there seems to be some many makers/craftsman who are on the slacker train lately? At times I think it is the economy, but then one would think that this would be more incentive for folks to step it up and attempt to grow their biz - increasing sales. I have no compassion anymore for these lame nuts.

This is still accurate info. except the TX address. My family and I are currently in OH for personal reasons, but will be back in TX shortly I hope.

I will get you refunded ASAP and I apologize for the issues, that is not how I intended any of this.

That is very kind of you.

That simply means I need to get money to ship them out first. Finances are difficult at this point.

I apologize to everyone for the issues. A lot of unexpected things have happened in my, and family's lives. I'm not stealing anything from anyone, or ripping anyone off. I appreciate all the patients and I know it's been a horrible experience for some people, but I will make sure everyone is taken care of. As always I can be reached at:

All of my personal info. is out there for everyone to see, my phone number, home address, etc. I'm not trying to run, or rip anyone off. Things just aren't going smoothly at the moment and I apologize to everyone for that.

Thank you again everyone,

Jeff
