Will, thank you for the information on the blade stops. As I had said, I had figured out that they weren't really there as an opening device, since the leverage was all wrong, so I had sort of assumed that they were a nod to laws such as those in California that require that a knife have an opening assist in order not to classed as a gravity blade. It had never occurred to me that they were blade stops! And I shall try your suggestion as to using them to complete a not so obtrusive opening method.
