Nekkid Batac

Great work!! That looks nice.

I'm sure this has probably been asked before, but does anyone know if G10 is as impervious to coating strippers as micarta is?

Now I want one.... what sort of stripper do you use? (to take the coating off)

Not the strongest but it worked really well this time around. I used a paper towel to wife off the coating and a small wire brush to get the hard to reach places.

Tyrkon, thanks for the photos. Nice to know that when the finish gets too fugly, stripping the BATAC will give me a look that works. I prefer a bead/ grit blast that gives a matte finish so, for me, all I'd have to do is strip it to be happy again. WOO HOO

Right On TL!!! That 3M scotchbrite works pretty darn good bro! I need to get me some of that stuff.... hmmmm, I do need to go to the hardware store today. Handles turned out nicely too...you just clean them up some or sand them a little??

Gool deal bro!!

That looks great! What do you use to polish the spine like that?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Some knives had grind marks and such under the coating. That's normal. The spine on this one was completely smooth under the coating. Nothing at all like my NO-E. So I just had to use a series of wet-dry sand paper by hand. I wonder if all the BATACS are like this. Hmmmm.

I have to say that the BATAC is in danger of becomming my favorite knife. Especially the BATACLE! (Look out NO-E :p ) I like the balance on this thing. Since I have an AK and another knife (DF) as a designated chopper I am looking at this size knife to be more of a utility/EDC.

And there are a few things that make it feel really good as a fighter.

(1) If you look at the tip of the knife it is narrower than the more classic Busse drop points such as the Ergos. It feels more aggressive.
(2) Very compact.
(3) And the balance, being more in the handle, makes it fast.

I know this is subjective but this little bugger is growing on me.

Nice one Jerry!

Beautiful job Tyrkon, as per usual! Love to see you taking that new blade for a ride, then a stripping off and polishing it! Nice stuff bud

I have to say that thing is just as georgious as it prob. was when she arrived in her cardboard sheath! Great work!

Thanks! I love that new look when they first arrive. But i have made it a rule that if I am pretty sure I am going to keep a knife I immediately go into my yard and scuff it up a bit. Once you get passed the initial horror of loosing that "new look" it's cake. Then you get to like the battle scars. Then, when the time comes, you get to give it a make over which really lets you own the blade. Great fun! Lots of this going on here lately. Awesome to see.:thumbup:
