It reminds me of a story I heard, long ago:
At some international, public event in the Philippines, the event coordinators put up a huge sign over the entrance, saying "Welcome" in oodles of different languages, including Tagalog, the Filipinos' own language. They almost ready to open, when a native speaker pointed out that, due to a tiny spelling error, they had unknowingly changed the meaning of the Tagalog message from, "Please Be Welcome" to, "Please Be Circumcised."
