I'm going to let out my inner nerd here for a second. For a few days I've been thinking about whether it would be possible for someone to create a certain blade from the video game series "Halo" out of steel.

The Dimensions:
Length: 1.265*metres (4.15*ft)
Width: 45*centimetres (18*in)
Thickness: 9.3*centimetres (3.7*in)

Now, my first thought would be that due to the length of it, as well as the split blade design, it wouldn't exactly be user-friendly, if it could be assembled at all. Due to this i played around with the image a bit and made a rough connection between the two blades, because it seems like it would be better off in more of a very elongated "V" shape.

Some other questions I had about this are, what other modifications would be necessary for this to be a legitimately wieldable sword?
Could this be constructed at all without completely changing the design?
How much would this weigh made from steel?
Would the handle be strong enough to hold its weight?
Any and all input is welcome.

(Note: No, I don't plan on actually trying to make something like this, or trying to pay someone to make this for me. This is purely a hypothetical post to see what others think.)

Can it be assembled at all? A quick stop over to Gil Hibben's website will answer that. He has some fantasy knives. Some of them are mind boggling. Although not practical, it would definitely be doable. It's basically two blades forged to a handle, but I think it would take an expert to do it. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up on man at arms on youtube someday.

This probably isent the right place for that... You might want to try a cosplay forum instead.
Trust me, I have zero interest in cosplay. This is merely a passing thought that ill likely forget about by next week. Plus, I want the input of experienced bladesmiths who know what theyre talking about.

It could surely be made, it will weigh a ton, cost a fortune, and would probably be pretty much impossible to use as you would have almost no control in the flat axis. I would move on to the next mission, Master Chief.

It is just a stylized katar. Forged in Fire had the finalists make one in episode 3. They are made single blade and double blade. Single blade would not be difficult to make at all.

FiF is exactly what I was thinking, too. However, I doubt it's 4' long. It appears to be a little longer than Tucker's forearm and hand, so much closer to the size of a katar.

"So it is a sword. It just happens to function like a key in very specific situations."

"Or it's a key all the time, and when you stick it in people, it unlocks their death."

I got the 4' measure from google, and I think google got it from a halo-wikipedia type site.

While some of us make fantasy knives, we don't fantasize about making them. Real blades must be able to be made in the real world and useable. A twenty pound knife with a cross grip handle would not work.
