I just got back from peru were I got to try out a nessmuk from sheathmaker Leatherface. I know not exactly a knife you would see in the jungle, but why not?

Specs:
Blade-01 steel
Blade length-4" convex
Overall length-8 5/8"
Thickness-1/8"
Weight-6 oz.

In the jungle the machete rules. That doesn't mean there is no place for a small sheath knife. Cutting vines for lashing shelter poles was easier than an 18" machete.

One of the guys found out the hard way that knives are better when sharp.

I left the nessmuk out in the rain one night just to see what would happen to the blade. There were small rust spots but nothing too bad.

Later that night I tried it out on some firecraft on the beach. It did a good job splitting wet wood to get to the core and then shaving some pieces for a fire. Then rain came and ruined my fun.

The next day on the boat it was used as a can opener for some sardine and ketchup spaghetti which is my favorite for those who know me.

To my surprise there was no damage at all to the blade.

Finally it was used to cut tape for some first aid.

So I would say the nessmuk was jungle worthy. Thanks Leatherface.

Here is a follow up on the Nessmuk I got from Leatherface for my Amazon Trip. I have not cleaned or oiled it ever. Not bad for 01 steel after the Amazon.

Split some wood with a baton for a fire I don't need.

A few rust spots from all the use in the jungle and home.

A natural patina from use but no real rust spots.

After I cleaned it with a little sandpaper. Osage and 01 age nicely.

Looks like a tough little knife and those rust spots seem to come right off. How in gods name can you actually enjoy ketchup + sardine speghetti? I like sardines but can't envision eating them with the sweetness of ketchup.

To my jaded eye, O1 takes on even more character and beauty as it's used and as it ages. That blade has stories and experience written all over it

Yes I like it better dirty and not clean looking myself. Like it says for those who know me....I hate sardines and ketchup!

O-1 is wonderful steel. It takes a great a edge and ages nicely as you have shown us. Nice pics as always!

My woodslore knife is O-1..it takes a scary edge!! I liked seeing take that abuse...great pics, thanks. Gene

I remember checking that out at Rammy a while back, very cool blade. I'm not normally one for nessmuks, but that one is really 'in line'. Looks very useful, an it looks like you've given it a lot of character!

I am about to order one of Leatherface's kydex sheaths for my m2k. Wasn't able to find too many of his pics around but I liked his work on the website.

Spooky,
Leather(Dave)Face is a good guy! He made the kydex for my machetes you see on his site. Really light stuff too which is always a plus for me. I hear what you say about not being into Nessmuks. I wasn't at first either. Never really liked the look but not too many Moras are cool to look at either. Function is the name of the game. Now after taking it to the Jungle and the Mountains as well as the kitchen I love it. I am honored to have an Azraels Leather Nessmuk. Thanks for letting me take it to the Amazon Daze.

I got a couple of trips coming up that I may need to talk to you about Dave.

That is one fine looking knife, great companion for a machete.

Those shelter poles look like Imbira. Did you try stripping off the bark for lashings? The inner bark of Imbira is like a web strap. Vines work fine but don't take a knot like bark.

Imbira saplings are a fantastic shelter resource, poles and lashings in one package, what more could you want? Mac
