Never again...

Learned the hard way myself...Had my REKAT SIFU damaged when I let a friend hold it and just recently I let a friend hold my new custom by Alan folts...First thing he does is thrust it into a box ..

Seems to be a common thing with gun idiots also...To many Cojacks that like to slam the cylinder home on revolvers...Screws up the timing pretty good.

Like Chuck said.
My AFCK and mini-AFCK have seen tons of hard use. Had the mini for 5-6 years, had the AFCK for over 3, and a coworker bought it. Liners are still in the center on both, both have been flicked thousands of times, as I'm a habitual and unrepentant "flicker". Mini-AFCK doesn't have titanium liners, btw. There's not enough blade on the mini to make for a very forceful opening, anyway. Might want to think about sending it back to BM, that liner shouldn't go far right.

I don't let other people use my knives, anymore. If they need something cut, I'll do it, or they'll find a knife elsewhere. Too many idiots out there.

If a knife is damaged simply by flicking it open. . .it was a piece of junk in the first place.

Jeff, isn't it a little early in the day for such a "tough" reply?! Actually, I agree! A good knife won't be damaged by a few flicks.

One thing that happened to me that really ticked me off was when my hyper, cocky, pain in my ass next door neighbor (he's a friend) saw my Sebenza, pulled it from my pocket, and flipped it open, all in about one second. Next guy that tries that will be grabbing it by the point end!

I think the moral of this story is actually "Don't Buy a Benchmade"

I can flick out all of my Microtechs as hard as I want and the liner doesn't travel any further. You shouldn't need to baby a knife and worry about ruining the liner like that.

farmer,
W/ all due respect. If you agree w/ GigOne, why did it bother you that your "pia" neighbor flipped your Sebenza open?
Are you saying they are "pieces of junk"? Or did it just bother you that he grabbed it from your pocket? ....

Lomic,
You've got the wrong story and the wrong moral.......

GigOne,
Anything, even 'flipping'; can be done hard enough to be abusive to any knife: no matter what the brand.

Um, yeah, I'm more confident that my Benchmades (705 and 730) will stand up to flicking than my LCC. I think all will do fine, but the Axis knives definitely have an advantage.

I don't like to let "non knife" guys handle my knives. The first thing they do is finger it all up then I have to (none too discretely) clean off their grubby fingerprints. Then they don't know how to open it and fumble around to the point of needing a net.

I guess I must have been born with a knife in my hand (if I was, my apologies to my Mom) because I've never run across one that was hard to figure out how to open or close. Some of these people can't figure anything out shy of a boy scout knife.

Many years ago a friend and I were in my first new car. He somehow managed to get a thread from his shirt caught on one of the buttons on the seat back. He asked for my knife. I gave it to him assuming he would carefully cut the thread. Noooooo he slashes at the thread leaving two cuts in the seat back. Yes he is still alive and still a friend but I do the cutting now.

Knife Nut in "flyover country"

People who know me, know better than to handle one of my knives or one of my pistols in the reckless and uncaring way that you people are describing. What this boils down to is absolute disrespect for another persons property, regardless whether it is considered to be the "best" brand or not.

I very rarely let anyone use (touch) one of my knives. Often they will want to cut something inappropriate or they will want to scrape something. This can be difficult if your boss wants to use it. I will have to remember to tell them not to flick it open, if I do let someone use it.

Your story reminds me of when I just got my Emerson Commander. Only had it one week. A friend wanted to see it. He flicked it hard and it fell against a table leg. I had to sharpen it up. Boy was I upset and I really started to blow up. Afterward I felt a little foolish. It was my own fault for letting someone else play with something I value.

I try to always keep a "beater" on me to loan out to the needy. It's easier than trying to educate the idiots-they seem to be unteachable.
I'm always amazed that someone will ask me "Why do you carry such a big knife?"(or flashlight, or pocket tool), and then turn around and ask to borrow it. Freaking amazing.

Before I aquired the knowledge that I have today I must have flicked my Benchmade Stryker and AFCK at least a few thousand times and used them very hard, both are still in great shape. As a matter of fact the Stryker is by far the smoothest knife I own...

No one touches any of my knives unless they are knowledgable knife nuts. I occasionally get comments like, "Hey what kind of knife is that, can I see it?" I just pull it out to show them but I will never hand it over to them. I made that mistake once by showing one of my knives to a guy at a gun shop and the guy cut himself badly closing my Benchmade Stryker. Of course this was after he flicked it open by swining it.
