New “Nail Notch” variants

I ended up buying one of these for myself, along with a standard 110! I’ve been wanting a standard 110 ever since I stupidly sold mine off in high school, so I’m excited to have another one.

I bought the slim select because it’ll make a great travel knife. I won’t have to risk losing one of my more cherished knives to TSA or anyone else (they’ve taken stuff out of my checked-in luggage before, including a knife), and I’ll still be able to whittle wherever I’m going.

A Ace Rimmer I’ve found my Slim Select to be just as good as yours is! Centered, solid lockup with no play, etc. Very satisfied!

I ordered one of yellow Spitfires with the BOTM. I like spitfire so might as well for $34. I guess this makes it more a traditional feel to it but I gotta open it 2 handed. Other spitfires with the thumb hole I could one hand.

I get where you’re coming from. I carry a Spitfire occasionally and I sometimes open it with 2 hands even though I don’t have to.

I do like having the thumb hole because it gives me a choice of how I want to deploy the blade.

I’ve not seen one on a Spitfire, but you could try adding a Kwik thumb stud or thumb bar to make it a one-hand opener.

My brother has a birthday coming up, so I ordered one of those 112 Ranger Slims with the Red FRN handle along with a pair of those cut-resistant gloves when they were on sale.
It just arrived today and I must say that I'm extremely impressed by the quality. I expected it to feel much more flimsy and cheap at such a low price, but it feels rock solid in my hands. It honestly feels more sturdy to me than my Buck 110 Slim Pro, which is supposed to be the superior model. I also really like the course texture as it provides a really solid grip.

Best part of stocking up on your favorite Buck is you always have a sharp one to use. I have a bunch of 112's and when one gets a little dull I grab a sharp one. That way I don't have to sharpen it every week..I find it's easy to break out the Sharp master once every 6 to 8 weeks and get them all done at one time.

A dual sided leather strop is perfect for the daily upkeep, just a few swipes on each side before setting the knife down or before putting in your pocket works great, especially on the easier to sharpen steels like 420.

So, I ended up liking the 112 Slim Select that I ordered for my brother's birthday so much that I decided to grab one of the Red 110 Slim Selects for myself, while also grabbing a 284 Bantam in Muddy Girl Camo as a gift for my mother on her upcoming birthday.

The deals on these nail notch variations are fantastic, especially considering that they're unusual variations, (at least here in the US) which makes them sort of special.

Also, I have to say, I prefer nail notches to thumb studs on slim lockback knives like the 110 Slim Select because the locksprings are generally so tight and the handles don't provide enough leverage to get them all the way open without putting my fingers in harm's way. I actually have a nice little scar on my right middle finger from last Christmas when my 110 Slim Pro snapped closed on it, so now I just open my 110s in a two-handed fashion, or by flicking them open using the old Dukes of Hazard one-handed opening method.
